In a cutthroat business world, how can you ensure authenticity and sincerity in your networking interactions?

Building trust is important, having clear and honest communication is very important. I always think what "value add" I can provide when I am meeting someone. When there is a genuine interest in helping others they will see and want to reciprocate. I make myself available for advice even if there is no business for me. I will gladly refer them to other colleagues if I feel they are better suited. Always try to do the right thing and when you do you will build trust.

Establishing trust involves consistently delivering on promises and being transparent in all dealings. Engage with potential partners by showing genuine interest in their needs and challenges, rather than focusing solely on your own goals. Offer your expertise and support willingly, creating a foundation of mutual respect and reliability. By prioritizing these authentic connections, you not only build trust but also pave the way for long-term, fruitful collaborations. Remember, trust is earned through consistent and sincere actions, making it a cornerstone of successful business relationships.

In my experience, building trust is the fundamental base of any relationship and it starts with respecting every individual with their work and time. The key here is to share enough that your prospects get to know you, but not too much so that it oversteps the mark. This is a very blurred line which is purely contextual between you and the client.

Sharing challenges that forced change whilst adding a touch of humour humanizes a company/person far more than any dry case study ever could. In a networking environment, people tend to not want to be assailed by numbers, details and tiny irrelevant facts - they want to empathise with the tale, relate it to themselves, and envisage a world where such challenge is easier to overcome.

When networking, not only be present but stay considerate to whom you’re meeting with and the “why” you’re meeting them. Everyone is hoping to gain something from a meeting or they wouldn’t be meeting with you. If you were in the other person’s shoes what would you be hoping to gain from that meeting and what would you expect to encounter during the conversation. Someone who is attentive, alert, and genuinely inquisitive will be memorable when networking. Be present but more-so be engaged in actually caring about who you’re meeting with.

Listening is the most important skill in business development. It’s crucial to understand and process what someone is saying they need to achieve their goals. Even if you offer a different view of the pathway to success you have fully engaged and begun a productive conversation. That’s my secret sauce to building relationships and creating networks.

TAKE NOTES. If it’s not appropriate during the meeting/conversation then make sure you do it immediately afterwards. You will not not remember everything and then when you come to revisit you will need that extra info and detail to win over clients

In healthcare, our goal is to provide value to patients, whether it's through dispensing medication, offering counseling, or advocating for their well-being. Similarly, in networking, offering value to others, whether it's through sharing insights, making introductions, or providing support, can create a positive and lasting impression. Just as a pharmacist aims to be a trusted resource for patients, I strive to be a valuable asset to my professional network.

If you operate from a place of genuine compassion, care and willingly share your knowledge and skills to assist others you will always be of value to your existing and future clients. Give for giving sake.

This is a golden concept. The way to do this in an authentic way is to care deeply about your product and audience. As a result, you will genuinely learn cool insights, tips and tricks that could genuinely be interesting to your prospect. It could help the recipient of your message stay up to date on the market, learn more about the industry, or do their job better. If you randomly think about a prospect, ping them with a value touch! Every piece of outreach does not have to be heavy paragraphs.

Networking is a strategic opportunity to build mutually beneficial relationships by offering value without expecting an immediate return. Here’s my perspective on this approach: Networking is more than just exchanging business cards or LinkedIn connections; it’s about creating genuine connections based on trust and reciprocity. You establish yourself as a valuable resource by offering insights, introductions to contacts, or resources that align with someone's interests or needs. This generosity helps others achieve their goals and positions you as a supportive and knowledgeable professional.

Do not say “follow up”. It makes it too formal and transactional. Mention something that your connection said and explain why it stuck with you or was interesting. You can then invite them for further conversation thereafter where you introduce your product/service

Following up after initial interactions is essential for maintaining connections. It's very important to be prepared to articulate your values clearly. Before diving into the conversation, I would recommend to develop a brief "values statement" that you can naturally weave into conversations. This helps others understand what drives you and allows them to connect with you on a deeper level if your values align.

Align and Sticking to your own values at the same time respecting the opposite person, team values are always important especially in this world. "No Value, No Life"

Look, when you provide a service or a product, you don't do it for yourself. You always do it to help others solve a problem. You must put your customers first at all times but the only way to do it consistently is by finding a job that truly inspires you. So in my opinion the only way to ensure you're sincere in your actions and with your network is by understanding your values and then making sure that your work is aligned with them. When you start from a passion standpoint, your interactions will always be genuine, because you do something that is fully aligned with you.

Look at everything as if your personal brand/IP depends on it - because it does. Don't think company, goals/KPIs at the forefront - think personal brand. What are you building as your own reputation saying the things you say and promising the things you promise. Your word is your bond. Ensure that you slow down not to overpromise and underdeliver, and if you do, rally the troops on your end to ensure that expectations are met/exceeded.

Connect: The basic norm of networking still remains the "connect". Body language, core values & offered business value if put together, the connect can be established and authenticity comes with genuine connect which leads to long term association.

Be Sincere. There isn’t a thing on this list that isn’t easily accomplished if it’s offered with sincerity, i.e. without premeditation or ulterior motives.
