Most people get involved to make a difference and they need to know that they are making an impact. But what motivated them to get involved? Did they raise their hand because your issue impacts their family? Is it pure altruism or a desire to be recognized as a good person? These drivers are all valid and will shape how to approach recognition and thanking volunteers in a way that will matter to them.

There is no one-size-fits-all formula for recognizing volunteers, as different volunteers may prefer different types of recognition. However, some general best practices can help you design and implement an effective recognition strategy. Vale sempre pontuar que não basta elogiar. O elogio precisa ser de fato correspondente aos méritos das pessoas. Ou seja, se eu pudesse dar uma dica é: elogio só se for de coração. Dê o elogio com base no que a pessoa realmente fez de bom, pois assim a própria pessoa reconhecerá o valor do voluntariado! Elogios vazios tendem a ser mal recebidos.

Too little recognition could lead them to feel ignored, undervalued, or discouraged; they may also lose their commitment and enthusiasm. Volunteer Management is uniquely challenging in that the participants are not employees, which means that their participation is not motivated by a paycheck. That generally means working with a group of servant-hearted people who find meaning and purpose in giving of their time, energy, talent, expertise, and attention. However, they are free to quit (or simply not show up) at any time for any reason. Similar to with paid employees, the supervisor is vital to the success of the team! And an exceptional supervisor of volunteers MUST connect with their "staff" on a very personal level. Ultimately, each volunteer is a human being who want/needs to know that they MATTER, that they are making a difference!
