I personally would add active listening as a broad measure and go more in depth on the empathy section to include remembering core values in your field of practice. In Nursing, encompassing some of the older therapies has worked wonders for me. This includes a multitude of alternative therapies such as massage, music and animal therapy, etc. These techniques reinforce a compassionate and trusting relationship while offering simple yet effective ways to combat pain and enhance comfort. Don't forget to offer ice/heat packs and warm blankets if you have them. Offer to close the door and dim the lights. Being present, mindful, and offering a little extra goes a long way!
