It all boils down to cost. we have seen how the unit costs which appear negligible could rise up very fast if we don't articulate and follow well defined consumption model. The most critical feature of cloud computing is Elasticity. automate provisioning and de-provisioning of resources to maximize cost benefits of cloud. Auto-scale resources only when demand grows, especially during peak business hours. Observability is key to drive event based triggers for cloud resource consumption.

A lot of companies/individuals get lured to the cloud via the initial free credits which may last 6-12 months. They run all sorts of services to play around with and "casually forget" to terminate the same. Post the free credit period a big invoice is usually waiting. Maintain discipline and keep an eye on your credit consumption.

I have a couple of customers that use Cloud in the following way: * Once they have decided to create an Application, they create it in a Public Cloud. * They work out the bugs/issues/Architecture flaws/Operational issues/etc. in that Public Cloud * Once they have a handle on how it all works, and have figured out how to Operate and Maintain the Application.... * They move it back into their On-Prem Cloud where they feel they can save money by operating/maintaining the Infrastructure themselves. The biggest advantage about Public Cloud is that it takes almost no time to spin up the Infrastructure to operate an Application...but long term, it seems to be cheaper to Repatriate the Application into your own Data Center Cloud.

Instant start and pay for the Hardware and software resources utilization and more ...are a few Pros to the Cloud computing. Many organizations have not chosen the easy path due to their sensitive or organizational workload moving to public cloud. Data security and its associated fear, Operational costs due to high volume of cores and software licenses, egress/ingress costs are a few Con factors cannot be overlooked. RISC based or CISC based cloud, healthy combination of On Prem and Public Cloud Or Private / Public cloud combination will certainly reduce Carbon footprint which in turn would reduce Software Lic and Operational Expenses.
