About us
AAPI Women Lead aims to strengthen the progressive political and social platforms of Asian and Pacific Islander communities in the US through the leadership of API women, girls and gender-expansive communities. Our goal is to challenge and help end the intersections of violence against and within our communities. We do this work in solidarity with other communities of color. AAPI Women Lead raises visibility around API women, girls and gender-expansive communities and our experiences with #MeToo, racial discrimination, war, immigration, and more. It also celebrates the leadership and power of AAPI women in Education, Business, Technology, and Politics. At the conferences, we bring together AAPI women leaders and our supporters to learn from one another, tell our stories, and to highlight our diverse leadership stories.

This year, we are back and better than ever! We invite you to be a part of our sixth annual ImReady Conference, “Building New Worlds,” convening in Oakland, CA at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center on September 21, 2024. In the midst of so much devastation, global war and genocides and after several years of challenges and demands, our communities have consistently demonstrated that the power of collective struggle; research + study; healing, wellness and resistance are central to creating a new world. From people’s universities on college campuses, grassroots clinics, to community-run farms, our communities are creating practices that are rooted in liberatory politics and radical care. As Arundhati Roy writes, a pandemic is a “portal, a gateway between one world and the next” and we are seeing that it is the people that are ushering in this new world. At “Building New Worlds,” we are bringing together over 200 artists, educators, activists, organizers, and community members who are interested in not only new worlds, but new ways of being. Please join us by saving the date, getting your tickets early, donating, and spreading the word. Speakers, agendas, and more to be announced in the coming weeks. Masks are required and will be available at this event. Thank you for helping us keep our communities safe. Details are subject to change. Check out previous ImReady Conferences at www.aapiwl.org/imready Contact us at community@aapiwomenlead.org for sponsorship, volunteer and in-kind donation opportunities!

Thank you Madison 365 for highlighting our first cohort's ground-breaking Intergenerational Participatory Action Report (IPAR), "Naming Our Rage, Building Our Power." “Naming Our Rage, Building Our Power,” is the first community-driven project of its kind that focuses on Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander women, femmes, and non-binary communities and their experiences with racial and gender-based violence. Its findings compile 18 months worth of research that digs into how violence is defined in various Asian and Asian American communities, as well as how these violences are addressed and resisted. https://lnkd.in/gjdpJ32H

Thank you Asian Pacific Fund for inviting our organization to speak at your incredible “Reclaiming and Redefining Our Mental Health” summit. And thank you for your continuous, incredible support for our organization. We are honored to be a part of this work with you.
Yesterday, the Asian Pacific Fund hosted our 2024 Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Summit on Reclaiming and Redefining Mental Health, and we had an incredible turnout, with nearly 180 registrants across multiple sectors - community, corporations, government, philanthropy, and media. The Summit engaged the passionate and dedicated individuals and groups committed to uplifting our AANHPI community. It also highlighted the importance of AANHPIs' role in advocating for access and support to mental health resources and creating space for culturally competent services. From insightful panel discussions to inspiring keynote speeches, the Summit was a powerful reminder of our collective strength and the importance of unity. We are grateful to our nonprofit affiliate, the Oakland Asian Cultural Center, and its staff for providing us with the perfect venue to host these discussions. Our special thanks go to all our speakers Kristina Wong, Amy Lam, Connie Wun, Ph.D., Kevin Niuatoa, MDiv,ThM, Anni Chung, Tone Va'i, Yuan Wang, Amulya Mandava, PhD, Daria Cisper, Kim Luna, Aly Pascual, and Dan Pascual for sharing their knowledge, insights, and tireless dedication for our community. The Summit would not be possible without the generous support of all our sponsors: Blue Shield of California Foundation, California Health Care Foundation, CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP), Blue Shield of California, The James Irvine Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, and Sugar Bowl Bakery. Thank you to the Akonadi Foundation, Bank of America, and Sobrato Philanthropies for the additional support. We are grateful to our official media sponsor NBC Bay Area, and our partners, Robert Handa and Jay dela Cruz, for helping promote awareness of AANHPI Mental Health and our Summit (https://lnkd.in/gz5Wrda5). Thank you to Chuck Siu, Amy Siu, and the Samoan Community Development Center for leading us in the arts and cultural practices. A special thank you to our outstanding volunteers from Kaiser Permanente and Enterprise for supporting our staff throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate our heritage, share our stories, and continue to work towards a brighter future for our community's mental health. Your presence and support are a testament to our collective strength and unity. Photos courtesy of Joyce Xi Photography #AANHPISummit2024 #AAPI #AANHPI #MentalHealth #MentalHealthMatters
