Absolics manufactures a #GlassSubstrate – a thin layer of glass on which processing and memory chips can be mounted together to create the brains of a computing system. The basic underlying technology is to replace organic cored substrate with glass. The material reduces the space required for a multi-chip package, allowing more chips to be packed into a single device. The glass substrate is considered a breakthrough because it can significantly increase the performance and energy efficiency of chipsets. Absolics is the first in the world to mass produce the material. SKC ventured into Georgia 30 years ago, playing a pivotal role as an #anchor company that facilitated subsequent entries of #KoreanBusinesses into the state. This initial investment set the stage for substantial growth, with Korean firms now contributing to Georgia’s development through multibillion-dollar projects and the creation of over 17,000 jobs. Starting with a Polyester Film Factory in the 1990s, SKC has evolved to drive industrial advancement and job creation in the region through Absolics, producing glass substrates for advanced semiconductor packaging. These cutting-edge investments by SKC and Absolics are enhancing Georgia’s industry, fostering technological progress and economic growth statewide. With ongoing investments and community support, SKC and Absolics continue to thrive alongside the local community long-term strategic partnership between Korea and Georgia. https://lnkd.in/g7NYFaEz #Georgia_Korea #Georgia_SKC #EconomicTies #AnchorCompany

#Absolics was honored to host officials, business partners and community leaders at a recent event marking proposed funding under the #CHIPS and Science Act for our site in Covington, #Georgia. The U.S. Department of Commerce and Absolics announced last month the signing of a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms to provide up to $75 million in direct funding for the facility, which was recognized for the role it could play in building a stronger U.S. #semiconductor_supply_chain. Absolics, an #SKC subsidiary, plans to manufacture at the site a breakthrough #glass_substrate – a thin piece of material on which processors, memory and logic chips can be embedded. The new material could enable more chips to be packaged together in less space, creating the brains of next-generation, #high_performance_computers. The increased performance created by the glass substrate could support advanced applications, like #AI, that are pushing the boundaries of today’s technology. Absolics broke ground on the site in late 2022. We look forward to marking additional milestones for the Georgia facility as we complete the facility this year.
