"As a bilateral amputee, I spent a lot of time scared of the world's perception of me, and where being an amputee would take me. Joining Achilles and being around the community has not only given me the confidence to get out there and challenge myself, but also the knowledge on what I can do and that I am not limited by my disability," says Akeem Kearse of Achilles NYC. He is gearing up to race in his first ever Achilles Hope & Possibility® 4M presented by TD via New York Road Runners on June 23, and he can't wait to feel his heart pumping out on the course. "Getting out on my bike and just feeling my heart racing is such a beautiful feeling that I really missed. It nearly brings me to tears. It's almost like flying a plane. It gives me a sense of control, as if I can steer my health and my life in any direction I choose, just like I steer my bike!" Join us all month long in celebrating the spirit of Hope & Possibility in your local chapters, or by joining us on June 23 in Central Park! #GoAchilles

"I spent many years running only around people with vision loss, so it's wonderful to go to races with Achilles now where we bring a strong presence of all kinds of adaptive athletes with all different types of disabilities," says Kyle of Achilles Boston.
