BREAKING According to a memo obtained by ACN, the FAA has notified Southwest Airlines of its intention to conduct a audit of the air carrier, known as a CHEP audit. The news comes following a series of recent safety related incidents at Southwest. Pilots have been advised to anticipate an increased presence of FAA officials throughout the duration of the audit. While CHEP audits do not have a fixed timeframe, they typically last between 3 to 6 months.

Southwest Update: The FAA is investigating a close call involving a Southwest Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 that occurred on July 14, 2024. The plane, en route from Columbus, Ohio, to Tampa, Florida, reportedly dropped to as low as 175 feet above the water while approaching Tampa International Airport. The wingspan of a 737 MAX is 117 feet. The flight faced challenging weather conditions and was ultimately diverted to Fort Lauderdale.

Delta Update: Delta is now crediting a “deeply complex” internal issues with its current operational meltdown. Delta Air Lines attributes its recent operational disruptions to a complex crew scheduling software issue, which, per the CEO, was exacerbated by a faulty Windows update. CEO Ed Bastian highlighted the intensive efforts by IT teams to manually address and rectify the situation to restore normal operations.
