About us
The Alameda County Bar Association (ACBA) is a voluntary-bar association with approximately 1,500 members. Founded in 1877, our mission is to promote excellence in the legal profession and to facilitate equal access to justice. In addition to MCLE courses and other membership benefits, the ACBA administers the Lawyer Referral Service to connect Alameda County residents to qualified attorneys, rigorously screened for their experience, knowledge and professionalism. Boost your practice, join our panel of attorneys! The Criminal Court Appointed Attorneys Program (CAAP) administers the conflicts program for the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda. Through this program, qualified attorneys represent indigent criminal defendants whenever the public defender is restrained by a conflict of interest. The Volunteer Legal Service Corporation (VLSC) is the pro bono arm of the Alameda County Bar Association. VLSC provides free legal services to low-income people in Alameda County and is the largest provider of pro bono legal services in the county.

Rubber and Rivers: CA Efforts to Combat the Toxic Trail of 6PPD-Quinone, 8/14. Presented by the ACBA Environmental Law Section. In 2020, researchers identified 6PPD-quinone as the toxic agent responsible for mass die-offs of coho salmon in the Puget Sound region. 6PPD-quinone comes from vehicle tires; it forms when 6PPD, the primary antidegradant used in tires, reacts with ground-level ozone. This reaction protects rubber from ozone and oxygen; thus, performing an essential safety function in tires, so it cannot easily be removed. Dr. Kelly Grant and Dr. Manoela Romano De Orte will discuss the emerging science on 6PPD and 6PPD-quionone, as well as the efforts of two California state agencies – Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and State Water Board - on this newly emerging toxicant. Property Division or Income Available for Support? What Every Family Law Attorney Needs to Know About RSUs, Options, and Equity Compensation, 8/21. Presented by the ACBA Family Law Section. Family law attorneys should understand how RSUs that vest after the marital date of separation are treated in terms of property division as well as income available for support. While RSUs are the "bread and butter" of equity compensation, it is not uncommon for employees of publicly traded tech and biotech companies to receive multiple types of equity compensation, including performance stock units ("PSUs"), non-qualified stock options ("NSOs") and incentive stock options ("ISOs"). Employees of private companies often receive restricted stock or stock options with few opportunities to liquidate them into cash to pay support. Speaker: Laurie Itkin RSVP: https://lnkd.in/g-9WVs7a
