The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) Board of Directors recently approved the $1.3 billion FY 2025 budget, which will fund more than 200 projects across the San Diego region. SANDAG has always been an advocate for jointed plain concrete pavement. Therefore, the projects bid through this agency provide a good market for our concrete paving contractors doing work in Southern California. Our valuable partner, Vanguard Construction & Co., has been recognized with the SWCPA Outstanding Achievement Award for pavement innovation. The company, working with CEMEX USA., California Nevada Cement Association - CNCA the City of Santa Rosa, CA, widened and rehabilitated one mile of Fulton Road in Santa Rosa with Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC) pavement in this $10.9-million project. With a lifespan of more than 50 years and boasting high strength with the ability to withstand heavy loads in high-traffic areas, this showcase project demonstrated that RCC is fast, affordable and a great sustainable choice.  Our partnership has allowed American Highway to grow thanks to Vanguard's vast knowledge and expertise in the paving industry. Exciting News! Last week, American Highway and Webber Heavy Civil collaborated on a groundbreaking trial pour using the new American Highway plastic chair for supporting steel in TXDOT CRCP projects. This innovative project took place on a TXDOT Farm to Market Road (FM) 455. The results were impressive! Webber’s field and engineering teams expressed their satisfaction with the product’s performance. Key benefits include 1) Stability and Alignment: The plastic chair provided exceptional stability and precise alignment for the steel reinforcement. This ensures a robust and durable pavement structure, and 2) Smooth Concrete Flow: During the pour, concrete flowed seamlessly through the middle of the chair, covering all internal gaps. This efficient flow contributes to better pavement quality. American Highway is now gearing up to bid on supplying plastic bar supports for your upcoming TXDOT CRCP project. State Route 14 out of Mojave, CA, known as the Aerospace Highway, recently received a complete pavement rehabilitation. Caltrans Districts 9 & 11 teamed up to design the project and Guy F. Atkinson Construction placed the new continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) overlay on the existing concrete pavement, saving both schedule time and hard costs. The Atkinson team completed the $53-million project 45 days ahead of schedule and built an outstanding, long-life highway with incredible smoothness.
