  • 🌟 Between May and June 2024, ACDC hosted its first Resident Leadership Academy (RLA) program, which aimed to “turn knowledge into power” by building up residents’ knowledge of Chinatown history and community organizing skills! 🌱 This program was a collaboration between our Community Building staff, Angela and Rebecca, and the @melkinginsitute, who delivered 4 sessions of their Community Organizing curriculum, as well as, our Teaching Artist, Maria Fong (@mariafongtastic), who facilitated the residents’ final art-based projects. Some highlights: ⭐ 15 enrolled residents; 13 graduates (attended 8+ of 10 sessions ⭐ 100% Trilingual (Cantonese, English, and Mandarin) curriculum ⭐ 10 meals shared together (1 potluck) ⭐ 1,080 minutes of co-learning and co-creation (9 learning sessions) ⭐ 4 final art projects (1 photobook/zine, 1 comic, 2 postcard designs on affordable housing, green space, air pollution, and pedestrian safety) ⭐ 1 celebration with final group presentations and a graduation ceremony! 💗 We’re thankful to the following community partners & guest speakers: - Tufts Chinatown Wellness Initiative for presenting on a session Health Equity - ACDC’s Building Blocks staff for sharing their financial literacy and first-time homebuying programs - Dr. MyDzung Chu’s Chinatown HEROS team who presented their findings from their environmental justice and health research - Sasaki (@sasakifdn) designers who supported the HEROS team by sharing how treescape and design materials affect heat and air-pollution resiliency 👏 Last but not least, we thank our childcare helper, Juan, and our two interpreters, Maple and Shuyi (LingualSmart). We could not have done the program without them! 🥰 To ensure each resident could participate fully, ACDC provided dinner, childcare, interpretation, and a participation stipend.
