Crime in Atlanta often stems from the repeated criminal acts of a relatively small number of individuals. To counter this, APF established the Repeat Offender Commission in 2015. This commission consists of City, County, State, and Federal leaders who work together to address systemic issues and decrease the repeat offender crime rate in #Atlanta. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿? A repeat offender is any person who has been previously convicted of felonies three times under the laws of Georgia or under the laws of any other state. The average repeat offender has 30 arrest cycles and six felony convictions. Here is an example of a repeat offender case. • The Atlanta Police Foundation believes keeping officers in the city is key to successful #communitypolicing. With average rents in the city at $1,797/month and $2,180 in Midtown, the Community Safety Housing Program (CSHP) offers up to $850/month rental subsidies for first responders. So far, 50 public safety employees have joined the housing program, including 30 police officers, 12 firefighters, and 8 corrections officers. The CSHP is a program that provides approved first responders monthly subsidy payments for rentals. Its goal is to make housing affordable for first responders to live in the community they serve and facilitate neighborly and voluntary interactions with the purpose of reducing crime, building trust, and increasing public safety. #CommunitySafety #AffordableHousing #FirstResponders #OneSafeCity

  • This summer, we collaborated with Advanced The Lives (ATL), a non-profit founded by Matt & Sarah Ryan, to sponsor a four-day trip to Disney Magic Kingdoms for graduating seniors from APF's @ Promise Center. Congratulations to our At-Promise high school graduates and thank you to our generous donor, for providing a memorable experience. With a 100% high school graduation rate, @Promise wanted to celebrate and provide our youth with an opportunity to reflect on their next chapter. • Secure Neighborhoods is one of APF’s strategic public safety initiatives to make Atlanta safer. The Secure Neighborhoods program has four components, and the Community Safety Housing Program is one of them. CSHP is a program that provides approved first responders monthly subsidy payments for rentals. Thus far, the City of Atlanta has given $500,000 toward this program to financially support first responders with up to $850 per month toward rent. The goal of CSHP is to make housing affordable for first responders to live in the community they serve and to facilitate neighborly and voluntary interactions with the purpose of reducing crime, building trust, and increasing public safety. CSHP also helps with attracting and retaining law enforcement in the city.

#DYK that APF's Repeat Offender initiative aims to reduce crime rates by specifically addressing the individuals who are most likely to continue committing offenses? To closely monitor Repeat Offender court cases like this and to determine a productive judicial performance is being served, join our #CourtWatch Program at https://lnkd.in/gm6cG6gn (link in bio). As a volunteer of the program, you will be trained to monitor bond and arraignment hearings and report to the District Attorney’s office whether Repeat Offenders are detained in jail or released on bond prior to their trials. This program is designed to spark greater accountability by the Fulton County Justice System in its managing of recidivists. #atlantapolicefoundation #apf #crimestoppers #stopcrime #apd #publicsafety #repeatoffenders #onesafecity #keepatlantasafe
