Perinatal mood disorders are one of the leading complications of pregnancy and childbirth in the U.S., and Black women face a higher chance of developing perinatal mood disorders than white women. AWHONN maintains that individuals should be screened for mood and anxiety disorders, especially during pregnancy and the postpartum period. It is crucial that health care facilities have policies and processes that address screening, interventions, referral to treatment, and education for those assessing for or impacted by Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder. #BlackMaternalMentalHealthWeek
