The $27B Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund is a game-changer for clean energy, but it's not without challenges. Many lenders are new to green financing, making standardization and digital infrastructure crucial for success. This is a HUGE opportunity for Wall Street and community lenders to collaborate and drive a thriving green lending ecosystem that benefits everyone. Check out the latest article from Latitude Media: An insider's guide to the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund - with $150 billion potential investment on the line, here’s what’s needed next according to Banyan Infrastructure. Colin Harris, executive director of advisory services at Banyan, stated "Standardization is key to the overall success of the GGRF program. Standardizing best practices will promote: Consistency, which is necessary to ensure fair use of funds and to speed deployment into communities; Transparency, which is necessary for portfolio management and evaluation by auditors; and Aggregation, which is necessary for stakeholder reporting and eventual recapitalization by a capital markets’ participant." The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s September 30 deadline to obligate funds to its 60 Solar for All awardees approaches, leaving those state agencies and community leaders grappling with how to absorb and distribute the cash to come. Amanda Li, COO and co-founder of Banyan Infrastructure, a software platform that simplifies transactions for sustainable infrastructure projects, attributed the program's challenges both to its novelty and to the inherent difficulty of financing distributed infrastructure on a larger scale. But the program could be transformational. As Billy Briscoe, CEO of the Clean Energy Fund of Texas, Inc, a multistate nonprofit which was awarded $156.1 million as part of the program, noted: “Nothing on this scale has ever been attempted." https://lnkd.in/gqWBcjkg
