Beacon House Day was 🔥! Despite the heat, our kids, parents, friends, and community had a great time. Highlights include games, crafts, senior bingo, a bounce house, and great food and great people. Thank you to all who came out for a fabulous day! ❤️

Teanna and her sister attended Camp LEAP in the late 1990s/early 2000s and Teanna’s children -- Zainab, age 7, and Muadh, age 5 – are in the program now. Teanna and her sister are now both Youth Development Mentors at Beacon House! As an adult she has appreciated that Beacon House provides her children a safe place, where they are loved, cared for, and protected. And, she loves having the opportunity to be part of making sure that all Beacon House kids “know we love them. We cherish them being around here. We cherish their experience here.” ❤️ #BeaconHouseDC #CommunityImpact #SummerCampDC

Kudos to Beacon House alumnus Quinten Johnson and the Michigan Wolverines for clinching the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship! Despite facing challenges, Quinten and his Michigan teammates displayed resilience, concluding the season with a flawless 15-0 record and securing Michigan's first national title since 1997. Outstanding achievement!

Happy New Year! We are only two days into 2024, and Beacon House’s alumni are continuing to lead, compete, and achieve at the highest levels! Last night, Beacon House alumnus Quinten Johnson made his presence felt in the College Football Playoff (CFP) semifinal between Michigan Football and Alabama, forcing a fumble (shown in the ESPN video below) and making other plays to help Michigan advance to the CFP title game. We'll be watching next Monday to see if Quinten - a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree who has completed his undergraduate studies and is now pursuing a graduate degree - and his Michigan teammates will fulfill their quest to win a CFP national championship! https://lnkd.in/eKrpkXvn

We are thrilled to be recognized as WTOP's Charity of the Month for December! Not only does our award-winning and nationally recognized athletic program create a safe space for our student-athletes, but their commitment demonstrates year after year that, compared to their peers, Beacon House athletes had higher levels of self-esteem, were more resilient, and were less likely to succumb to peer pressure. They are also more likely to stay in school. https://lnkd.in/eFz4AqF3

Beacon House has again molded hard-working young men into a winning football team. Our Falcons 13U team won the regional championship games, beating the number one-seeded team to earn the opportunity to travel to Florida to compete for the National Championship. We are thrilled to provide young men with a chance to travel and compete on a national level. This year, we are electrified that this team of coaches also grew up at Beacon House and played not only as Falcons themselves but went on to play in high school and then in college. Graduates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) such as Virginia State University, Clarke Atlanta University, Bowie State University, and Morgan State University, these coaches returned to their roots to serve as role models and support the next generation in Edgewood. Today, we offer you the unique chance to support future leaders in the community and become a part of the community of our student-athletes, coaches, parents, and other supporters. Beacon House has influenced thousands of people over the last 31 years. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for transportation costs, lodging, and food to send a group of 36 student-athletes and 16 adult chaperones for the weeklong American Youth Football National Championship games in Naples, Florida, from December 1st – 9th, 2023. With just days left to raise the money, we need every bit of support! Beacon House Community, let’s not let them down! Please make your gift today https://lnkd.in/eXTjEwtU
