The rise of remote work has opened more doors for women in the workforce, but it's also blurred the lines between the office and home. Women continue to shoulder a greater share of caregiving responsibilities than their male counterparts, meaning many working mothers have found their energy constantly diverted between professional responsibilities and domestic duties—from client calls to school pickups. The result? A 'second shift' hindering women's career advancement and well-being. More from The Wall Street Journal on how remote work policies, unequal childcare responsibilities, and gender norms contribute to this ongoing challenge for women: https://lnkd.in/e_pt6Uag

CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Working to ensure everyone can live a healthy life & reach their full potential. Father, husband, optimist.
Throughout his life, Nelson Mandela never wavered in his devotion to democracy and equality. He fought against injustice and was a voice for the oppressed. He once said, “It is in your hands, to make a better world for all who live in it.” I’ve always found inspiration in these words, they’ve shaped the path I’ve taken in my life as well as my work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. I was honored to have had the opportunity to meet him many years ago. Mandela’s legacy stands as a reminder that we all have the power to create a freer, more just future for all. #MandelaDay

Ultrasounds are a critical tool to help diagnose and care for mothers and their newborns. But in low- and middle-income countries, 50% of pregnant women never receive an ultrasound scan. New portable, AI-enabled ultrasound devices are making ultrasound technology more affordable and accessible—making this technology available to many women for the first time. On #AI Appreciation Day, we’re celebrating powerful innovations like these. https://gates.ly/4fk8MnB

Kudos to the Financial Times for highlighting the power of funder collaboratives like The END Fund. With a network of 7,000 investors from 68 countries, they’re combining capital and resources to tackle neglected tropical diseases like trachoma. This collective action is literally giving sight to the blind, restoring vision to hundreds of thousands. Child malnutrition is widespread, stunting the brain development of millions of children in low- and middle-income countries. But it doesn’t have to be this way. The Economist explores how investing in nutrition for women and children—especially in the critical window of the first 1,000 days of life—can have a significant impact on the cognitive abilities of future generations. https://econ.st/3S4uxgU
Small investments in nutrition could make the world brainier
