EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY The Museum seeks a skilled, team-oriented, and experienced Objects Conservator to oversee assessments, treatments, and overall collections care for the Birmingham Museum of Art (BMA) in Birmingham, Alabama. The Preparator is responsible for tasks related to exhibition preparation, including installation and de-installation, packing and unpacking, and crating and uncrating works of art. They perform all duties using accepted museum standards and practices, such as matting and framing, building, painting, and moving museum display furniture and objects, and installing art in all media. The Preparator works with individual curators to design and fabricate custom mounts for display or storage. They also assist with environmental monitoring, maintenance, and organization of storage, as well as basic collection and gallery care and cleaning. The Preparator should have at least one year of experience in a museum preparation department or related field. The Manager of Tour Programs serves a critical role in object-based teaching and visitor engagement at the BMA through oversight of the Museum’s public education tours and experiences. The Manager is responsible for the conceptualization and coordination of all in-gallery, educator-led experiences and group tours at the Museum, which serves Kindergarten through 12th grade students, as well as university and adult audiences. These experiences include self-guided visits as well as interactive and engaging guided tours through exploration of the Museum’s collection and special exhibitions. Position Description: A key member of the Museum’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the Director of Finance shall function as the institution’s Chief Financial Officer, reporting directly to the Museum’s Deputy Director and serving as a critical partner for the Director / CEO and ELT in modeling and tracking the Museum’s growth strategy. In addition, the Director of Finance will lead all day-to-day finance and accounting operations for the Museum, including budgeting and financial planning, accounting (accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, grant reporting), compliance, and reporting activities. The Director of Finance will also support the Director / CEO in reporting to the Museum Board and the Finance Committee and will work closely with the city of Birmingham’s financial staff to ensure proper use and accounting of city funds directed toward the Museum.
