Our Founder, Deanna Oppenheimer, had the opportunity to share a few insights with Financial Times in a recent article examining female representation in boardrooms and executive positions. The piece applauds the progress of more women entering corporate boardrooms but also underscores the significant career barriers female leaders encounter, revealing the complexities of advancing to executive roles. So how do female leaders overcome these built in career blocks? One approach, as Deanna Oppenheimer points out, is "to take a chance when you’re up and coming and give a chance [to others] when you get there." Where is the best place in the world to be a working woman? Top 5: Iceland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France. Revealing data in the The Economist on the glass ceiling for women in OECD countries. Unsurprisingly, representation at the top in both politics and business correlates with where women have the best professional opportunities relative to men. “women’s representation in senior management roles in the oecd reached 34.2%, up from 33.8% last year. Sweden, America and Poland are particularly impressive on this measure, with women holding more than 40% of high-level jobs. In Japan and South Korea the proportion is a disappointing 15% and 16%, respectively.” “The share of company board members who are women hit 33% across the oecd for the first time. In the eu women must make up 40% of board directors by 2026. So far only five of the 22 eu members in our index have reached that target (and all of those surpassed it).” “Studies have shown that more women in political leadership leads to a greater focus on women’s rights and family policies. In Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Finland—the top four countries on our index—women hold at least 45% of parliamentary seats. In South Korea and Japan, on the other hand, their share is below 20%.”

"E.l.f. stands out as one of only four public companies in the United States whose board is at least two-thirds women, and at least one-third diverse individuals. It's one of just 18 whose board is at least two-thirds women." You may have seen the recent E.l.f campaign that caught the attention of many - shedding light into the current state of corporate board diversity. This campaign, "Change the Board Game," reveals there are more men named Richard, Rick, or Dick on boards than there are women and diverse individuals combined. Central to their efforts is the idea that - while there's nothing wrong with being Richard, Rick, or Dick - there's simply "not enough of everyone else." Christine Lagorio-Chafkin | Inc. What an incredible morning at the World Trade Center Seattle with sponsor PNC. The session kicked off with an insightful panel discussion featuring Deanna Oppenheimer, Lisa Nelson, and Laura MacNeil, covering prominent topics like AI and the economy, and how these trends are impacting the boardroom. Following the panel, we were joined by several seasoned board directors - Edward Thomas, Jasmine Donovan, Kathi Lentzsch, Kathy Gersch, Kelly Wright, Lynn Terwoerds, and Michael Millegan - who all did a fantastic job facilitating engaging break-out sessions. A huge thank you to our panelists, table moderators, and all the attendees for helping make this event a success!
