The Contracting bill has passed the New York State legislature! Improving the contracting process will ensure civil legal service organizations like Brooklyn A can better serve New Yorkers. “We are thrilled that legislation improving the state contracting process passed both houses of the legislature. Civil legal services providers in particular are helping New Yorkers access the essentials of life, including housing, education, and healthcare,” said Kristin Brown, President of the New York Legal Services Coalition. “We strongly encourage the governor to sign this bill as an important first step to making the process fairer, more timely and more transparent for non-profit organizations so we are able to plan through delays.” Read the full statement from the NYLSC coalition: https://lnkd.in/eEWmeiek

The application window will only be open next week (June 3 to June 9). NYCHA will then add 200,000 applicants to the waitlist through a lottery system. Applicants will be notified if they were added to the waitlist by August of this year. This news is particularly relevant to our tenant clients seeking new affordable housing options and our domestic violence clients, who receive priority in the Section 8 system. This budget cycle, we faced uncertainty with IOLA funding, a first since its inception. We need to #ProtectIOLA. A new bill in Albany, S.9130/A.10253, is a crucial step in ensuring that the IOLA fund serves its intended purpose: providing vital legal aid to low-income New Yorkers. We hope you'll show your support by using the link to send a letter to your elected representative urging them to #SupportS9130: https://lnkd.in/eVzj_gR3
