About us
The Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA), the health department serving Cabarrus County, brings nationally recognized leadership and expertise in public health to the the NC Research Campus. CHA is one of the only nationally certified public health departments in the country. CHA provides many free to low-cost classes and programs for the residents of Cabarrus County on subjects such as healthy cooking, yoga, nutrition education and disease management. Classes and programs are offered at the CHA headquarters in Kannapolis and throughout Cabarrus County in neighborhood centers, churches and other facilities.

The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism at Hickory Ridge High School visited CHA on Tuesday, where they attended a series of presentations on public health. Dr. Alicia Primus introduced the field of Public Health, followed by Amy Potoczny and intern Braylee Childers discussing Preparedness. Ryan McGee covered IT, Emmett Stokes spoke on Healthy Living, and Jacob Snyder focused on Environmental Health. After the presentations, students toured CHA. For the past two years, rising 9th graders have visited CHA, cycling through four different departments to learn about various public health careers and opportunities.

Virginia Fagg Crespin, one of CHA's Prevention & Education Program Coordinators, presented at the NC Prevention Conference last week. She addressed essential considerations for agencies aiming to integrate overdose prevention activities into their primary substance use prevention programs. She showcased CHA's work in distributing Narcan/Naloxone, detailed CHA's data collection methods, and discussed the barriers and successes encountered in overdose prevention efforts. Additionally, she highlighted CHA's collaborative efforts, both internally and externally.

📋Our Environmental Health Food and Lodging staff worked at the Charlotte Motor Speedway during Memorial Day weekend. They were on-site Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to ensure the safety of the food. We take pride in collaborating with our community partners to help create enjoyable and safe events for both our residents and visitors.
