Today marks 60 years since the Civil Rights Act was signed into law. The measure prohibits discrimination based on race, religion, sex or national origin. It also provided for the integration of schools - representing a national commitment to end discrimination in education and help deliver the promise that every individual has the right to develop their talents to the fullest. Building upon this foundation, CDE and State Superintendent Tony Thurmond work diligently to support inclusive, safe and supportive learning environments where all students can thrive.

Personal finance education is the key to financial freedom! 📈 💰 State Superintendent Tony Thurmond today celebrated the passage of #AB2927 (McCarty) through the California State Senate, which would make California the 26th state in the union to require #personalfinance as a high school graduation requirement. The bill is expected to receive concurrence in the Assembly and support from Governor Gavin Newsom to become law. This victory marks the culmination of a two-year effort by Thurmond to bring personal finance education to all students across the state of California. Thurmond has led a coalition of voices – including students, families, educators, experts, and policymakers – who have elevated financial education as a key issue of economic justice.
