Introducing our “Fun in the Sun” Facts summer series 😎 Each week, we’ll showcase a “Fun in the Sun” fact, along with a related content bundle to help you learn more about how to uplevel incentive compensation management for your org. To kick off, we’re taking an #ICM adventure through time 🕐 In 1979, VisiCalc - short for “Visible Calculator” – was released, and quickly became the most widely-used method for building budgeting scenarios and modeling concepts like incentives. But, thankfully, that was just the beginning of ICM evolution - and if you’re tired of spreadsheets, we get it. We’ve bundled together a few resources to help you structure your commissions program outside of Excel. Check them out here: https://lnkd.in/giBaxqE6

Helping SaaS professionals grow their careers | Sharing everything I learned scaling hypergrowth startups from $5M-$500M+ ARR.

I was responsible for paying out a million dollars. (And how I almost got fired for it) It's 2019 and I just moved into my first Sales Ops role at Udemy for Business. Guess what my first big project was? Comp Plans and Commissions. And that's not even the worst part. I also had to: • Move us out of spreadsheets. • Source a new commission tool. • Roll this out to the entire sales org. The first thought that popped into my head? -"I'm getting fired if I mess this up." We aren't talking about a typo in a presentation or a missed deadline on a random Salesforce project. This was real money. Mucho dinero. This project was so big that I had to get personal approval from the SVP of Finance and the SVP of HR. For the next 3 months, I got obsessed. I learned more about comp plans and commissions than any CFO in SaaS. -Multiple all-nighters staring at spreadsheets. -A ton of legal jargon that I randomly memorized. -I wouldn't wish this torture on my worst enemies. Poured a ton of sweat equity into this. And in the end...everything turned out fine. That first project taught me a career lesson that is burned into every neuron in my brain. Do more sh** that scares you. PS. Shoutout to CaptivateIQ for making sure everyone got paid on time and helped me keep my job.
