In a video shared with employees today, Nancy Howell Agee, who led our organization through more than a decade of transformative change, announced that she will step down as CEO Sept. 30. Steve Arner, who was promoted to president in May 2023, will succeed Agee and become president and CEO Oct. 1. The leadership transition comes after Agee's long and distinguished career at Carilion, beginning as a nurse in 1973. She was named our president and CEO in 2011, becoming our health system's seventh—and only female—top executive. Agee earned national recognition for reorganizing Carilion as a fully integrated, physician-led clinic that includes a medical school and research institute with Virginia Tech and served as chair of the American Hospital Association's Board of Trustees in 2018. She will serve as CEO emeritus through September 2025 and focus on philanthropy, growing our partnerships and continuing to develop our health system's reputation statewide and nationally. https://lnkd.in/en7cd_kx

Here's to setting goals and achieving them! Our team at the Center for Simulation, Research and Patient Safety set a goal to recycle 1,000 pounds and they did it in just one year. 💪♻️ This was primarily made up of cardboard, plastics, paper and soda cans from the building's operations. Way to go team! #mondaymotivation #recycling #reducereuserecycle #sustainability #sustainablebusiness

Congratulations to Stevee Johnson and Samantha Stepp, recipients of this year's Carilion New River Valley Nursing Scholarships! Their commitment to our patients and their curiosity to learn more are sure to help them shine through their studies! The scholarships, which are made possible by donations to the Carilion Clinic Foundation by CNRV staff and physicians, support current CNRV employees who are pursuing a nursing degree. We look forward to seeing what your future holds, Stevee and Samantha!

Today, we celebrated a historic $25 million gift to Carilion Clinic from former U.S. Ambassador Nick Taubman and his wife, Jenny. This contribution will help us create the Carilion Taubman Cancer Center, a beacon of hope for patients in our region. This generous gift will transform oncology care for our community, empowering us to better serve those fighting cancer. 💙 Thank you to the Taubmans and all our donors for your generous support!

A great way to #giveback while getting out in the sunshine: Volunteering at a community farm, like our CVI Revenue Operations and FCM Central Support teams did over the past few weeks at our very own Morningside Urban Farm! 🧑🌾👩🌾🍅🌻 #volunteer #community

If stranded on a desert island, Robert Trestman, MD, PhD, Chair of Psychology and Behavioral Medicine, would bring "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking to read. Hear more from Dr. Trestman about his desert island essentials—and about our Mental Health services expansion, plus the ways we're prioritizing patient care—in his recent interview on the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA) podcast:https://lnkd.in/eDyAYzuS.
