Our mission is to heal children, strengthen families and build community.
About us
Since 1981, the CHRIS 180 mission has been to heal children, strengthen families and build community. CHRIS is an acronym that represents our core values: Creativity, Honor, Respect, Integrity and Safety. Our goal is to unlock the potential of Georgia’s youth and fortify families by providing a hand up, not just a handout, through our integrated Family of Services. We believe that potential is a right, not a privilege. This holistic approach enables children, youth and families to unlock their potential for happiness, health and success despite challenging circumstances, often beyond their control. We offer an array of individualized programs through our Family of Services which includes: Behavioral Health, Safe Homes & Environments, Strong Communities and Education & Training. Our ambition is to be Georgia's go-to place where every vulnerable child or traumatized youth discovers how to unlock their potential. Hard to believe that schools in Metro Atlanta start back in just one month! And CHRIS 180's School-Based Mental Health team is getting geared up for another year in the classroom! The group held a hands-on learning day hosted by the team's Operations Managers, Raveen Lewis,LMSW, and Tejah Stanley, MS, along with Director Melissa Bauman-Fletcher, LMFT, to plan fun activities to help the team find solutions for improving operations. We appreciate the creative leadership of the team leads who organized the workshop. Their efforts ensure that our team continues to learn, grow and serve clients to the best of our abilities! Societal expectations, peer pressure and lack of support are leading men to battle mental health issues alone, but this doesn't have to be the case! In honor of Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, WABE spoke with CHRIS 180 Therapist Taylor Anderson, MA, to get his perspective on men's mental health and learn about our approach to helping them overcome the stigma of asking for help. Thank you, Kenny Murry, for featuring our work! #mentalhealth #mensmentalhealth #counselingservices #atlantanonprofit

Join CHRIS 180 in celebrating Pride Day today! 🏳🌈 While we celebrate all year long, today marks the 55th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising that sparked the LGBTQ+ rights movement. Fast forward to today, tremendous progress has been made in society. However, we recognize that issues, including lack of full protection under non-discrimination laws, youth homelessness, high suicide rates among teens and the stigma of HIV/AIDS still impact the community. As we head into July, let's continue to honor and advocate for individuals in the LGBTQ+ community and spread kindness! #PrideMonth #AtlPride #Pride2024 #CHRIS180

Meet our CHRIStal Ball Co-Chairs: Kathy Waller and Cyril Turner. The two longtime community, corporate and civic leaders are proud to be at the helm of the August 17 event, honoring our retiring President & CEO, Kathy Colbenson, LMFT, and raising funds for the children, young adults and families we work with. Waller, the Executive Director of the Atlanta Committee for Progress, spent 32 years with The Coca-Cola Company, holding many leadership positions before being named Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and President of Enabling Services in 2017. She has since retired from the company and now serves on several public and nonprofit boards, including on CHRIS 180's Advisory Council. Turner also worked as a Vice President at Coca-Cola before joining Delta Air Lines as a Senior Vice President. He is now serving as a CHRIStal Ball co-chair for the second year. We are now selling tickets and sponsorships! Visit CHRIStalBall.org to check out how you can support. #CHRIStalBall24 #CHRIS180 #atlantafundraiser #atlantanonprofit

This month, CHRIS 180's Certified Fitness Nutritionist Felicia Drummond, MHA, was invited to Microsoft Garage's Child Well-Being Hack-A-Thon! The Hack-A-Thon challenged Drummond to use artificial intelligence to develop a gardening program for youth. This pilot program was also an opportunity for organizations to collaborate and brainstorm ways to help youth improve their mental and physical health. Drummond works at our Westside Empowerment Center, which holds a free weekly curb market every Monday for the community. Share this post if you know someone who could use fresh, nutritious groceries!

This week, CHRIS 180 hosted our third Advisory Council meeting of the year with some of our biggest supporters and advocates! We were honored to have Tameka L. Askew, MSW,CLC, Director of Home on the Westside for the Westside Future Fund and former CHRIS 180 team member as a panelist to discuss the connection between mental health and youth homelessness. She was joined by CHRIS 180's Ivory Smith, MFT, the Program Manager of Atlanta Police Foundation's At-Promise Center - West, a program dedicated to guiding youth toward productive lives through counseling, mentoring and more. Our speakers did a great job sharing how CHRIS 180 and Westside Future Fund help youth and families experiencing homelessness find safe and stable housing. Thank you to everyone who took time after work to join us. We also want to show our appreciation to our Advisory Council Co-Chairs Susan O'Farrell and Chris Arrington, CTP, AAP, for moderating the panel and Seyfarth Shaw LLP for lending us your office--special thanks to Advisory Council Member Rebecca Woods (she/her/hers) for hosting us! #AdvisoryCouncil #advocacy #nonprofitleadership #Atlantanonprofit

This Pride Month, CHRIS 180 honors Javarrea, a resident in our permanent supportive housing program, Summit Trail Apartments. She shared with us how grateful she was to join the CHRIS 180 community when we were known as CHRIS Kids after being in an unsupportive environment in her Mississippi hometown. "CHRIS 180 has just been so supportive, from helping me with housing to helping me find my identity and giving me a safe space to transition and be myself." Watching Javarrea blossom into the young adult she is today has been wonderful, and we are proud of her work in changing the direction of her life! This month, visit our LGBTQIA+ timeline spanning 35 years to learn how we have advocated for thousands of LGBTQ+ young adults to help them reach their potential. https://loom.ly/Y2s9ezw #PrideMonth #Pride2024 #AtlantaPride #CHRIS180 #Atlantanonprofit
