Last week, the City of Yuma revealed our 2024 Yuma Way Employee Appreciation campaign! The Yuma Way sets the tone for a positive work environment, and it represents the City’s core values, which are Professionalism, Accountability, Integrity, and Responsiveness. In celebration of this event, employees were treated to cold refreshments such as shaved ice and popsicles, as well as Yuma Way Swag! Our Engineering Department ROCKS!!! Yesterday, the City of Yuma Engineering Department took time out of their busy schedules to give back to our community by volunteering at the Yuma Community Food Bank. The team prepared 2400 community bags for the Emergency Food Assistance Program! Thank you for demonstrating the Yuma Way, we appreciate YOU!!! #YumaWay #TeamYuma

Shout out to Luis Lopez from the City of Yuma Solid Waste Division for demonstrating the Yuma Way!   Last week, Luis was recognized by a resident for going “above and beyond” as he had moved trash cans from behind parked cars so they could be collected for pick up.   The resident said this happened during Spring Break when they, and a few others on their street, forgot it was trash day!   Way to look out for our residents Luis!   #TeamYuma #YumaWay

We continue to share employee stories that demonstrate the Yuma Way! Shout out to Greg Stack, Assistant Director of Utilities and Joseph Gehring, Water Treatment Operations Supervisor for providing assistance to a water company! The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) contacted the City’s Utilities Department about a nearby water company who, due to staff turnover, had no trained water operators. Our Utilities team reached out to the water company and offered to send an Operations Team to assist them. Our team provided guidance, suggestions, and expertise on how to operate the water treatment system equipment and how to improve their water processes. The team also identified filter cleaning procedure issues and provided guidance on how to improve the facility’s “backwash” process, which greatly improved their water quality. Great job Greg and Joseph! Way to demonstrate the Yuma Way! #TeamYuma #YumaWay

We continue to highlight the Yuma Way by showing how City employees are dedicated to service. Today we highlight our Parks and Recreation team: Marilyn Lammel, Recreation Supervisor and Vanessa Penunuri, Recreation Coordinator for demonstrating the YUMA WAY! When Marilyn and Vanessa were running errands for a Parks and Recreation program, they saw black smoke coming from a residential neighborhood. Although they were driving away from the area at the time, they turned around to check the location where the smoke was coming from, which turned out to be a residential structure fire. They immediately called 911 and found two children unattended inside the residence. They rushed the children to safety and waited until a guardian for the children and the City of Yuma Fire Department arrived on scene. We are proud to have Marilyn and Vanessa in the #TeamYuma family! #TeamYuma #YumaWay

We are excited to kick off this week with some great stories about how our employees demonstrate the Yuma Way! For the past several months, the Public Works Neighborhood Cleanup crew has been collecting unwanted items and trash in Yuma neighborhoods. Thus far, the crews have collected 829 tons of debris and 1,426 used tires. Every year, our residents look forward to the Neighborhood Cleanup season and this crew gets the work done. Thank you for your dedication and for demonstrating the Yuma Way! #TeamYuma #YumaWAy
