💪 The Mental Price Construction Workers Pay Construction workers face a high-pressure, physically demanding environment daily, which significantly impacts their mental health. A recent study revealed that 83 percent of these mostly male laborers have experienced mental health issues. Long hours, chronic pain, and extreme working conditions contribute to a higher risk of drug and alcohol abuse, with a suicide rate four times higher than the general population. An Atlanta-based construction supply company with over 10,000 employees has taken proactive steps by establishing a mental health employee resource group to promote conversation and increase awareness about resources. In its first year, nearly 500 employees across 49 states have participated, with overwhelmingly positive feedback.
