About us

In July 2019, to catalyze progress toward achievement of the goals for viral hepatitis elimination globally, the Task Force for Global Health (TFGH) launched the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE). Modeled after other TFGH disease elimination programs, the CGHE provides services to assist the planning, implementation and evaluation of national and sub-national programs to eliminate hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission and disease.

  • This Elimination Champions Week, meet another hepatitis elimination superstar ⭐ Dr. Anthony Martinez! Dr. Martinez is an associate professor of medicine at Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and medical director of hepatology at Erie County Medical Center. His clinic, "La Bodega," is nationally and globally recognized for its novel co-localized model for managing viral hepatitis and addiction disorders. Since 2013, it has treated thousands for hepatitis C (HCV) and substance use disorder. His dedication and innovative approach have significantly advanced the field and improved patient outcomes.     Congratulations to our former CEO Dr. Roy Vagelos for being honored with the Elimination Champion Legacy Award from the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination, a program of The Task Force for Global Health, Inc. 35 years ago, Dr. Vagelos led our company in a hepatitis B vaccine technology transfer to address a significant public health challenge in China. We’re proud of his recognition and our continued commitment to global health.

  • It is still Elimination Champions Week at The Coalition and we are excited to highlight the elimination accomplishments of Dr. Danjuma Adda 🏆 Dr. Danjuma Adda was diagnosed with hepatitis B in 2004. Adda founded a charitable organization in Nigeria in 2011 following the loss of his mother to hepatitis C and witnessing the devastating impact of HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis on friends and family. His organization provides free diagnostic tests for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV, and advocates for better patient access to diagnostics and treatment. Dr. Danjuma Adda is also the Past President of the World Hepatitis Alliance.   • In honor of World Hepatitis Day this month, we’re honoring Dr. Chulapong Chanta for his work in increasing awareness and improving access to care for hepatitis B and C in Thailand 🏅 Dr. Chulapong Chanta, a pediatrician and Assistant Professor at Chiang Rai Hospital, Thailand, has dedicated his career to fighting chronic hepatitis B (CHB) since his own diagnosis in 1990. He has become a leading advocate for hepatitis B and C awareness and care and developed a hepatitis elimination strategy aligned with WHO and Thailand's national policies.   • In honor of World Hepatitis Day this month, we’re rolling out announcements for the new 2024 CGHE Elimination Champions🏅 Meet Ms. Sue Huntley, a registered nurse and Founder/Director of Hepatitis B Free, an Australian charity. Renowned for her advocacy and leadership in combating hepatitis B across the Asia Pacific, she worked with hepatologist Prof. Alice Lee to establish elimination programs in challenging environments, saving thousands of lives. Their efforts span Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Kiribati, Tonga, and North Korea, where Sue set up the country's first five hepatitis clinics.
