About us
Comic Relief US is committed to breaking the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Through the power of entertainment, we drive awareness and amplify the voices of the most under-resourced communities. Since its launch in the US in 2015, Comic Relief US has fundraised over $330 million in total, with $275 million raised through its signature Red Nose Day campaign. Comic Relief US invests in 56 nonprofit and community-led organizations with programs focused on tackling the root causes and consequences of poverty and social injustice. We support initiatives and policies that advance economic opportunity and leadership development in communities directly impacted by intergenerational poverty. As a connector and convener, we engage the public, corporate and nonprofit partners to raise awareness and funds to address the world’s most pressing social issues. With seven years of steady success, Comic Relief US is looking forward to evolving and diversifying its platform. The organization is scaling for growth by launching innovative campaigns, and creating new funds to establish new models for social impact. Comic Relief US is a sister organization to Comic Relief UK, which has raised over $1 billion since its launch in the UK in 1988. Comic Relief was co-founded by Richard Curtis, a film writer and director, behind films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Love Actually, and Mr. Bean. Richard is also a UN Sustainable Development Goals Advocate.

Our Red Nose Day campaign culminated in a whirlwind of fun and fundraising, and we are so proud to thank the incredible partners whose unwavering support fuels our mission. This year we were thrilled to welcome four new partners to the Red Nose Day community: Chuck E. Cheese, the LEGO Group, Snapple, and Beast Philanthropy, who joined returning partners The Harlem Globetrotters, eBay for Charity, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Critical Role Foundation, Hikma Pharmaceuticals, and British Airways. Thanks to these remarkable organizations, we continue to empower our grantee partners who are on the front lines, breaking the cycles of poverty affecting countless children and young people in the U.S. and globally. From grassroots initiatives to global changemakers, our partners ensure that children and families receive essential services and support. Special gratitude goes to NBCUniversal for partnering with us on our new TV special “Red Nose Day: Cheers to Ten Years,” a heartwarming look back at some of our most hilarious and inspirational moments of the past decade, including the life-changing impact Red Nose Day has had in helping children across the U.S. and worldwide. We are also deeply grateful to the organizations who helped amplify our message, including The Associated Press, AccuWeather, Atmosphere TV, Bloomberg Media, The Economist, Fandom, The Guardian, GumGum, Kargo, MiQ Digital, NBCUniversal, Octopus Interactive (Acquired by T-Mobile), Ogury, Pandora, PJX Media, Teads, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Spotify, Vox, and Wunderkind. Thanks to all of you and our generous donors, we have made tremendous strides, but our work isn’t finished. With nearly one in six children in the U.S. living in poverty right now, there are so many more kids who need our help. Your support means everything. Every contribution, big or small, empowers us to move closer to a world free from poverty. Today, and every day, we celebrate the impact we make together.

Join us in congratulating our founder, renowned screenwriter, and director Richard Curtis, who will be honored with the prestigious Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at the 15th annual Governors Awards. The Honorary Oscar will be presented at a ceremony that will be held on Sunday, November 17, in Los Angeles. Beyond his cinematic brilliance writing iconic rom-coms like "Notting Hill," "Bridget Jones’s Diary," and "Love Actually," this accolade celebrates his extraordinary lifetime achievements and exceptional contributions to both the motion picture arts and his outstanding humanitarian efforts. Richard's charitable endeavors are truly inspiring. As the co-founder of Comic Relief UK and US, his fundraising initiatives over the past 40 years have raised over $2 billion, impacting more than 170 million lives. His commitment to global causes extends further with the co-creation of Make Poverty History, the Live 8 concerts, Project Everyone supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and the ethical investment campaign Make My Money Matter. In case you missed it: We recently concluded an inspiring and nostalgic Red Nose Day childhood sing-a-long series, where we invited musical artists across diverse genres to reflect on their favorite childhood songs and rally their communities in support of this year’s campaign. These artists generously shared the memories associated with these tunes and how they influenced their journeys into the world of music. From evocative ballads to dynamic anthems, their stories highlight the profound impact music can have on our lives, its unique ability to unite us, and its power to be a catalyst for change.

This year, for Red Nose Day, we’re tapping into the power of childhood and reaching new audiences with a fun and fantastical new concept—the Childhood Dreamstakes. It’s an opportunity for people to help end child poverty by donating for a chance to win one of six childhood dream experiences, bringing the magic of youth to life. The campaign was developed in collaboration with Gus.biz, the independent creative agency. As Gus Co-Founder Graham Douglas Douglas told Campaign US, “Younger audiences need to feel like they have a hand in the mission, whether that's nonprofit or for-profit. These experiences offer that younger audience a chance to feel like they are a part of something and have the ability to tap into that childlike wonder themselves.” By embracing these nostalgic elements, we aim to raise both awareness and crucial funds to ensure every child can experience a happy and healthy upbringing. Join us in this heartfelt mission and rediscover the magic of childhood. Learn more about our campaign and the creative work that went into building it together: bit.ly/3wBZRfH
