Michael brings over 30 years of experience in K-16 #education, #foundations, corporate #philanthropy, and #nonprofit leadership to the Cooper Coleman team. Michael’s career is marked by numerous executive leadership positions in which he implemented transformative strategies rooted in #equity and #inclusion, including Executive Director at Scripps National Spelling Bee, Campus President for Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, IL, and Interim President and Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer at GLAAD. Michael is also a Fellow of the American Council on Education and spent his residency year at Fairleigh Dickinson University and the United Nations. Michael’s academic background is equally notable, with a Post-Doctoral Certificate from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Loyola University Chicago, specializing in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Ingenuity addresses arts education inequities in Chicago Public Schools (CPS). We connect diverse arts education stakeholders and promote data-driven decision-making to benefit CPS students. With an annual budget of approximately $3M, our efforts serve 320,000 CPS students, 650 schools, and 300+ community arts organizations. Launched in 2012, Ingenuity’s Creative Schools Fund (CSF) has invested over $20M in teacher-designed arts education programs within Chicago Public Schools. The Fund’s role is to accelerate and deepen the impact of Ingenuity’s other work by incentivizing arts-positive behaviors in schools. Since the fund was launched, CSF has reached over 60% of schools in CPS with investments ranging from smaller multi-year partnership grants to larger, sustained support for school-wide arts planning and capital improvement projects. Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Manager of the Creative Schools Fund will ensure transparent, accessible grant-making, foster equitable approaches, and maximize sector-wide impact. This will involve supporting schools and arts partners in implementing successful programs, identifying opportunities for partnership development, and ensuring grant decisions are data-driven and inclusive. As an integral member of the Programs Team, the Manager of the Creative Schools Fund holds a key position in enhancing the efficacy of grant processes and strategies, thereby advancing the coordination, implementation, evaluation, and overall sector impact of the Fund. They will creatively address barriers to arts access in underserved schools, ensuring funds contribute to sustainable capacity building.
