URTeC starts today, 6/17 and through Wednesday, 6/19. If you are attending the Unconventional Resources Technology Conference (URTeC), we would like to welcome you to the Core Lab booth (#409 –straight down the aisle from the main entrance to the exhibit hall). Our team will be sharing examples of recent work with clients around topics such as perforating strategies, pre-frac reservoir evaluation, completion efficiency, and production analysis. Visit us, rest your feet, charge your phone, and join the discussion! We’re also excited to share that as a Sapphire sponsor we are providing the Core Exhibits for viewing at booth #1109. You can see core samples from around North America and discover the true variability of these tight reservoirs. And please join the ProTechTalk Panel Discussion on Tuesday, 6/18 to hear Core Lab’s ProTechnics Manager Aaron Burton speak on the topic of “Optimizing Completion Placement: Strategies for Effective Zonal Containment.” #CoreLab #ProTechnics #URTeC2024

Congratulations to Harry Xie and Omar Reffell for receiving the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) award for “Outstanding Petrophysics Journal Papers 2024. This prize-winning article reviews the importance and advantages of the use of the laboratory higher frequency (HF), e.g., 23 MHz, NMR systems, and 2D mapping techniques for identifying and quantifying different forms of water and hydrocarbons in unconventional shale core samples. Within the paper, examples of applications are given to demonstrate the measurements of saturations, activation energy of hydrocarbons, mobility of oil, and kerogen maturity in shales. As Core Laboratories continues to innovate and develop new technologies, some of which are exhibited in the paper, we will remain intuitively focused on delivering products to the marketplace that enable our customers to achieve their objectives. _____ Dr. Xie is a global Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) expert and pioneer in developing Higher Frequency (HF) NMR techniques and applications that ushered in a new paradigm in the unconventional tight rock space. Utilizing HF NMR instruments designed and built by Dr. Xie, a fit-for-purpose technology for tight rocks entered the unconventional space. Omar Reffell developed an integrated workflow PRISM, integrating HF NMR technology with classical routine unconventional analytical techniques, geochemistry, and mineralogy. Core Laboratories has moved the novel NMR rock characterization methods from a specialty space into a widely accepted industry “routine” practice. PRISM workflows have received rapid adaptation in the U.S. market and have been integrated into characterization workflows to analyze rocks from around the world.

Core Laboratories invites you to join us for the Woodford-Barnett Consortium Workshop on May 21st at our Advanced Technology Center in Houston, TX. As the Wolfcamp, Spraberry, and Bone Spring drilling inventories mature in the Permian Basin, the time has come for the industry to shift its focus to the hydrocarbon potential of the Woodford and Barnett formations. This Consortium Workshop will highlight the key characteristics that have made the Barnett and Woodford so successful in the Fort Worth and Oklahoma basins, and how to apply those insights to exploration programs in the Permian Basin. Our study leverages an extensive dataset, including over 9,000 feet of conventional core, to highlight the striking similarities and key differences among the Permian Basin, Oklahoma, and Ft. Worth Basins. This comprehensive analytical program encompasses sedimentologic description, thin section and scanning electron petrography, X-ray diffraction mineralogy, porosity, permeability, organic content, rock eval pyrolysis, organic maturity, and advanced testing, including geomechanics and fluid sensitivity. If you're not already a member of the consortium, we invite you to join and attend the upcoming workshop.
