Senior Executive: Innovating at the Forefront of Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity| TS/SCI w FSP
As the former CTO and Service Level Coordinator for AI for the United States Marine Corps, I am thrilled to see new leadership that is working to better understand the full potential of AI/ML. Every day, thousands of Marines perform routine data-collection tasks and make hundreds of data-based decisions. They compile manning data on whiteboards, screenshot weather forecasts for weekly briefings, and submit training entries by hand. Marines I have spoken to indicated that they were severely resource-constrained. Gen. Eric Smith’s new message emphasizes the importance of exploiting data on the modern battlefield. His vision includes Marine operating forces integrating into sensor networks, using automation and machine learning for decision-making and predictive maintenance. However, to fully realize this vision, the Corps needs to move faster in integrating AI and machine learning. This article emphasizes how designating a Marine expeditionary force as the lead for data analysis and literacy could unify efforts, foster innovation, and accelerate the adoption of these technologies across the force. https://lnkd.in/euR8sfib

A #KillSwitch offers a tangible way to control #AI, preventing misuse in critical applications like military technology and infrastructure. However, their implementation is not without challenges, including computational burdens and potential misuse by malicious actors or authoritarian regimes. Balancing these pros and cons is essential as we navigate the evolving landscape of #AIsafety.

A recent paper titled SpeechGuard: Exploring the Adversarial Robustness of Multimodal Large Language Models (Raghuveer Peri, Srikanth Ronanki, Sai Kribakhar Muralidharan and team at Amazon Web Services Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning) highlights vulnerabilities of integrated speech and large language models (SLMs). Adversarial attacks on #SLMs involve generating perturbations to the input speech signals, causing the models to produce unsafe or irrelevant responses. As demonstrated in this paper, these attacks can result in jailbreaks. These jailbreaks bypass the safety and ethical measures embedded in the #AI systems, posing significant security risks. To counter these threats, researchers propose a pre-processing technique called Time-Domain Noise Flooding (TDNF). By adding random white Gaussian noise (WGN) to the input audio, TDNF effectively drowns out adversarial perturbations. Although this method reduces the Jailbreak Success Rate (JSR) of attacks, the study also points out challenges when attackers adapt and modify their strategies to evade known defenses like TDNF. AI security requires robust evaluation tools. Datalytica's Reverse Engineering and Vulnerability Elucidation of Algorithms (REVEAL) platform plays a pivotal role in identifying which AI algorithms are most susceptible to these sophisticated attacks. With #REVEAL, organizations can systematically analyze the safety and robustness of AI systems and implement effective countermeasures based on the latest research. REVEAL not only empowers organizations to protect their AI systems from #adversarialattacks, ensuring safe, reliable, and ethical AI deployment, but it also helps organizations determine if they have chosen the right AI system for their intended use case.
