Detroit Regional Chamber Vice President of Racial Justice and Economic Equity Marnita Harris was highlighted by the Women United of Southeastern Michigan. Read more about Marnita's work.
We have another great Women Lighting the Way member spotlight! Marnita Harris, VP- Racial Justice and Economic Equity, Detroit Regional Chamber. "One of the best pieces of advice I received from another woman is to always do my best and recognize my worth in any professional setting. I've learned that my contributions are valuable, and I am just as essential as anyone else in the boardroom." Marnita Harris proudly embodies the spirit of Detroit and the Detroit Public Schools (DPS), carrying a lifelong love for her hometown. As the Vice President of Racial Justice and Economic Equity (RJEE) at the Detroit Regional Chamber, Marnita leads transformative Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) efforts. She oversees the internal Equity Team and Board committee, nurtures external partnerships with organizations like Gallup, and plays a crucial role in investor recruitment and member engagement within the DE&I space. Driven by the events of the 2020 pandemic and social unrest, Marnita underwent a significant career transition to focus on addressing systemic inequities affecting Black individuals and people of color. Witnessing profound losses and disparities firsthand, she resolved to redirect her career towards endeavors aimed at diminishing these injustices. Marnita was inspired to join Women United after attending the virtual Women of Influence Summit in 2021. The impactful initiatives discussed during the event, particularly in literacy and childcare support for the Detroit area, deeply resonated with her passion for community development. Marnita's dedication to equity and community empowerment exemplifies the spirit of Women United and underscores the impact of collective action in driving meaningful change.
