Are you involved with trauma or emergency services? Doctors Medical Center is offering an Emergency & Trauma Symposium on Friday, Sept. 27 from 8 am - 3:30 pm. The symposium will cover best practices including: new DKA protocols, pre-hospital management of traumatic injuries from head to stomach, the relationship of gunshot energy and the type of wounding, how to be aware of gangs, and trauma nurse processes. Six Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits are available. ADVANCE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Register and pay at DMC Trauma Services (adjacent to the ambulance bay). Questions? Call 209-576-3776.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) Central Valley chapter donated 80 warm blanket packages shaped like hearts to our oncology patients as part of the LLS partnership with the Subaru Loves to Care initiative and Subaru of Modesto. The blankets are useful and appreciated because, although it may be hot outside, cancer patients can get very cold during treatments. Central Valley Doctors Health System sponsored a free community event, Music and Mind: Harnessing the Arts for Health and Wellness, at the Gallo Center for the Arts last weekend. Hosted by renowned soprano Renée Fleming, the event explored how music and art therapies can help chronic pain and those living with stroke or traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer’s disease and other conditions. The distinguished panel included neuroscientists Dr. Daniel Levitin and Dr. Indre Viskontas, and neuro-interventional surgeon James Jaffe, MD from Doctors Medical Center, the Central Valley’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center. #BetterTogether #ACommunityBuiltOnCare
