We’re proud to be featured in Karen Yi’s great Gothamistarticle on The Door’s participation in Point Source Youth’s Direct Cash Transfers as Prevention pilot program, which provides youth ages 16–24 at risk of homelessness with one-time cash payments—direct funds they can use to secure safe, stable housing, including rent, housing deposits, application fees, and other emergent needs. "We couldn’t be happier about the flexible funding that the Direct Cash Transfer Program provides to young people, who can use it for expenses that are truly beneficial as they seek to avoid homelessness," said Kelsey Louie, Chief Executive Officer of The Door. "This supportive, strengths-based approach helps establish authentic trust between The Door and its participants, promotes youth autonomy and empowerment, and strengthens self-confidence and independence. Housing stability is a cornerstone need, crucial to being able to shift from focusing on surviving to thriving. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Point Source Youth on this youth-driven pilot program, which helps prevent young people from entering the homelessness system to begin with.” To view the full Gothamist article, visit https://lnkd.in/e6AeYFhq. #DoorNYC #NYC #youth #NYCyouth #housing #homelessness

Enjoy an evening of inspired cocktails and cuisine as we honor celebrated fashion designer Brandon Blackwood with the Change Maker Award. Brandon was a member of The Door in his youth and has carved an inspired path, not only in design, but as a philanthropist and agent of change. Visit www.doorgala.org for more details. A huge shoutout to our friends @CAVA for partnering with The Door again for Community Day. Guests received a free lunch or dinner at their new restaurant location and accepted donations to The Door in lieu of their free meal. We are so grateful for their multipronged partnership as a sponsor, community partner, and employer partner for The Cut, our onsite culinary workforce training program. If you haven't heard, we offer #ESOL (English as a second language) classes at our Bronx Youth Center, @door.byc. Our instructor, Annie, was leading a dice-rolling activity. Students were tasked with going to the board and writing an English sentence a certain number of words long, depending on the number they rolled. They were all super into it, enthusiastic, and engaged throughout the game. Thank you, Annie, for bringing engagement and enthusiasm throughout the game!
