Early Friday morning, we demolished the Trenton Channel Power Plant’s boiler house. The plant powered Michigan’s growth for 100 years and now the site will play an important role in the state’s clean energy journey. In 2026, it will be home to DTE’s Trenton Channel Energy Center -- the largest standalone battery energy storage project in the Great Lakes region. The energy center will store 880 megawatt hours of electricity, enough to power nearly 40,000 homes. This will reduce strain on the grid, decrease the need to start and stop generation as demand fluctuates, and augment DTE’s growing wind and solar resources – all of which benefit DTE customers.

A heat wave is hitting southeast Michigan with multiple days of extreme temperatures expected throughout this week. Our team is working 24/7 to strengthen our energy grid - both generation and distribution - to withstand increasingly extreme weather. We’re also working with our communities to keep our customers safe. Our Community Engagement team is distributing hundreds of fans to non-profits to keep customers cool and has already delivered more than 60,000 bottles of water at 10+ community partner locations across SE Michigan. From all of us at DTE, please stay cool and stay safe!
