About us

EmblemHealth is one of America’s largest not-for-profit health insurers, serving more than three million people in the New York tristate area. With an 85-year legacy of serving New York communities, EmblemHealth offers a full range of commercial and government-sponsored health plans to employers, individuals, and families. We started back in the 1930s, at the height of the Great Depression. Out of hard times, the idea of health insurance was born — a system that would protect everyday people from financial misfortune if they had an accident or illness. Two companies from those early days of health insurance, Group Health Incorporated (GHI) and Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York (HIP), would later merge and become EmblemHealth. And after 85 years, our purpose as a not-for-profit is still the same — to provide quality, affordable health insurance for New Yorkers and their families. The EmblemHealth family of companies provides insurance plans, primary and specialty care, and wellness solutions. The family of companies covers the whole health journey, starting with affordable coverage through EmblemHealth, and ConnectiCare, a leading health plan in Connecticut. The family of companies also includes the AdvantageCare Physicians medical practice, the occupational health clinic EmblemHealth Health@Work, and WellSpark Health, a barrier-breaking digital wellness company. As a family of companies with deep community roots, EmblemHealth Neighborhood Care and ConnectiCare Centers offer free wellness and community resources. Together, the family of companies creates healthier futures for customers and communities. We think of ourselves as an 85-year-old start-up — big enough to offer the stability and benefits of a major corporation, with a ferocious commitment to innovation, collaboration, and flexibility. We believe in what we’re doing. And we’re looking for passionate people to join us.

Thank you to Workhuman for their recognition and partnership in launching our organization’s first custom designed employee recognition program to connect recognition to our values – Empower, Deliver, and Do it Together – as a foundation upon which to build and evolve our culture. In its first year, our BRAVO! program generated 23,940 moments of recognition. To give context to that number, individuals at EmblemHealth are seen, recognized, and celebrated every 26 minutes. “At EmblemHealth, recognition is key to our company culture,“ commented Chief Human Resources Officer Bill Voigt. “Our employee recognition program, BRAVO!, is a testament to our commitment to ensuring employees feel valued for their contributions, feel inspired to succeed, and live out the values of our organization.” Find out more in the Workhuman case study at the link. https://lnkd.in/eS3KNFae

#TBT to the EmblemHealth family of companies at the NYC Pride March. Prism, our LGBTQ+ employee resource group, marked the end of Pride month by gathering 35 employees and their friends and family for NYC Pride. The largest Pride march in the U.S., over 26,000 people gathered this year to share their pride, joy, love, and enthusiasm on the streets of Manhattan. Although the weather caused the march to shut down right before Prism was poised to march onto the 5th Avenue route, this did not dampen their spirits. Special thanks to AdvantageCare Physicians Director of Regional Operations Carl Rene, who coordinated the gathering of Prism marchers in front of the Flatiron Medical Office to pick-up their company Pride t-shirts. Also, a shoutout to co-Group Leader Avisha Sanassie, Diversity Initiatives manager, for assisting with the complicated logistics leading up to and the day of the march. #pride2024

Becker's Healthcare Payer Issue recently asked 17 payer executives this question: "What is your No. 1 focus for the second half of 2024?" EmblemHealth SVP of Medical Management and Chief Health Equity Officer Abdou Bah responded this way: Improving the health status of our members shapes our work every day at EmblemHealth. We are making it easier for our members to get the care they need when and where they need it. We are doing this through projects focused on managing chronic conditions, opening more of our Neighborhood Care centers where in-person assistance is provided, streamlining processes, introducing new services and automation, encouraging portal adoption and more. We have several active initiatives involving members and providers to elevate and streamline their experience working with us. All of this is centered around our focus on maximizing performance around quality measures to close gaps in care and improve our members' health outcomes. We are also preparing for 2025, including the implementation of the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan. Click the link below for the full read.

This week, our interim Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anthony Marinello, welcomed attendees to the NYC Cardiac Rehab breakfast. The collaborative hosted a panel discussion to address cardiac rehabilitation participation rates in New York City. “Only 15.4% of eligible New Yorkers complete one session of cardiac rehabilitation following a cardiac event," Dr. Marinello commented in his remarks. "The CDC goal is 70% participation in cardiac rehab. So, you can see, we have a lot of work to do to improve our participation rates. At EmblemHealth, we’re excited about the paradigm shift in access to cardiac rehab across the city.”
