Alongside Cilia Holmes Indahl, the CEO of EQT Foundation, I'm humbled to be the guest on the latest episode of Better Heroes, to share about our technology and how we overcame our early challenges. We are very grateful to receive support from amazing people like Filip Bredinger, Jey Sern Choo, and others from EQT Group, EY and DLA Piper. Our CEO, Cilia Holmes Indahl, recently spoke to DealStreetAsia about how Asia is a region where there is growing interest in deploying capital for impact with numerous family offices, foundations and where climate issues have potential local impacts. Philanthropic organisations are developing in maturity of how they are driving impact. Cilia explained, “in the past, philanthropic organisations were trying to create as many jobs as possible. But now we’re moving into a world where they’re looking at the types of jobs being created, the sectors these jobs belong to, and whether these jobs are beneficial for the climate.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eqRD3Cdd

Our grant for Barncancerfonden's project of integrating data with AI to simplify access to childhood cancer health data has secured further funding from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Sweden, allowing BCF to build their first prototype for their research. A big thank you to the 30 researchers who have worked together with EQT Foundation to test the feasibility of the project so that it is now ready to scale up. This progress in health data also brings forward obstacles that must be addressed to further research and develop efficient healthcare. 34 signatories, including Barncancerfonden, outlined the following: 1. The fragmented clinical research system hinders progress in healthcare; propose a national function to coordinate research infrastructures, enhancing research and healthcare involvement in new knowledge. 2. Unclear health data guidelines hinder regional data management, resulting in inconsistent patient benefits. A national framework with ethical, secure guidelines is needed to standardize data collection, use, and sharing, supporting the European health data regulation. 3. Today's ineffective knowledge management hampers quality care. Propose national governance to create a knowledge base and guidelines for implementation and follow-up, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and equitable care. ⭐️ Day 25 - Code of Nature Developing a moss-based nutrient kit for revitalizing depleted soil, streamlining soil preparation for reforestation Soil degradation, a pressing global environmental challenge, impacts 40% of the Earth's soil, undermining efforts to revive forests and various ecosystems. This deterioration results in issues like soil erosion, contamination, and the seepage of heavy metals into groundwater. With the expanding scope of this devastation, there is an increasing urgency to advance soil remediation techniques. What if there was a way to facilitate rejuvenating soil to help with reforestation? Read more: https://lnkd.in/djNmcTxE #EQTFoundationHolidayHope  #25impactstartups

⭐️ Day 24 - Advanced Microbubbles Developing ultrasound-triggered microbubbles for precise and safe cancer drug delivery Precision anti-cancer drug delivery is challenging, with less than 1% of drugs reaching the target due to barriers like the blood-brain barrier. These barriers result in poor outcomes and severe side effects. Drugs often struggle to penetrate tumor environments, making effective chemotherapy difficult. The key issue is balancing chemotherapy's potency with its toxicity, especially when drug absorption rates are low. What if there was a way to deliver more precise treatment? ⭐️Day 23 - Kyomei Growing animal proteins in plants Traditional meat production poses significant global challenges: it's environmentally damaging due to land overuse, deforestation, and high greenhouse gas emissions. Animal farming uses much of the agricultural land but yields only a minor portion of the world's food, leading to food security concerns. Growing awareness of the health and ethical problems with conventional meat production is driving a shift towards more sustainable, natural, and healthier food alternatives. What if there was a way to use plants to grow animal protein? Read more:https://lnkd.in/dgN4y3Yg #EQTFoundationHolidayHope #25impactstartups

⭐ Day 22 - Carbix Transforming CO2 into sustainable building materials The global challenge of CO2 emissions, particularly from industrial sectors like cement, steel, and chemicals, is a significant contributor to climate change, necessitating innovative solutions. Negative emission technologies, crucial for achieving net-zero goals, focus on capturing CO2 either directly from the atmosphere or at emission points. The development of sustainable building materials is emerging as a key approach in the construction industry to reduce the carbon footprint. What if there was a way to convert carbon emissions and turn them into viable construction materials? Read more: https://lnkd.in/d9qQdnWe #EQTFoundationHolidayHope #25impactstartups

⭐ Day 21 - Immunocure Creating next-generation immunotherapies for cancer, infectious, and inflammatory diseases Developing effective immunotherapies for cancers, inflammatory diseases, and infectious diseases is a major challenge in medical science. Traditional vaccines are slow to develop, often unstable, and have safety and efficacy limitations. A critical issue is addressing inflammation-related pathologies and T cell exhaustion, which hinder effective cancer treatment. What if there was a way to use DNA focused vaccines to effectively help treat diseases? Read more: https://lnkd.in/d_4vRRRH #EQTFoundationHolidayHope #25impactstartups
