It's already been 2 years since our last European company event in Carcassonne, so everyone was excited to reunite in the City of Seven Hills: Rome! 🍝 We kicked off the weekend on Friday with a rooftop bar meet and greet, where we enjoyed a stunning Italian sunset along with refreshing drinks and excellent company. 🍹 Saturday morning began with a work session but was quickly followed by golfcart-powered sightseeing around the city, which had to include a stop at the Trevi Fountain and most importantly some delicious gelato. 🍨 However, the absolute highlight was Saturday night's private visit to Galleria Doria Pamphili, where our colleagues had a magnificent dinner surrounded by high art. 🏛️ After an evening such as that, we decided to leave Sunday morning open for our colleagues to explore the beautiful city. They say all roads lead to Rome and we certainly are happy that ETRMServices' path led to the Eternal City. 🐺 A huge thank you to Pierre-Yves Gagne for organizing another superb weekend! We can't wait to see our colleagues, seasoned and new, at the next event. 💘 Also thanks to Arun Kumar Bera for putting together this fun video that really captured the spirit of the event! 📹 #TeamEvent #BellaRoma #TradingTechnologyExperts

🎓 Our #ETRMUniversity program trains technical graduates in energy trading technology so that they gain real-world experience by supporting clients while learning from seasoned colleagues. Later, graduates continue with ETRMSevices, like the colleague that we'd like to introduce today: 👨🎓 Balakumaran Baskaran, known to us as Bala, is a consultant and the product manager who is responsible for ETRMHub, and has been with us since 2014. Located in the Netherlands, he has a propensity for chess and a deep love of problem-solving. Read the interview below to find out more about his experience with ETRM-U: 1️⃣ How did you get involved in the ETRM-U program? Bala: Right after graduating from university, I began applying for jobs. I got an interview with ETRM and they told me about the program. 2️⃣ What was your favorite thing about the program? You start working on projects from Day 1. In other companies it takes a while to start working on cool stuff due to bureaucracy but that wasn't the case at ETRM-U. 3️⃣ What drove you into this field? I was already interested in finance and trading because my parents both worked in banks. I didn't know about energy trading but after a little research it felt like a natural field to go into for me. 4️⃣ What do you like most about your job? Every day is different. The customer calls with a problem and I see it as a puzzle to solve. I really enjoy that. 5️⃣ What do you like most about ETRM? I like that the hierarchy is still flat. When I joined we were 30 people, now we are 130 and if I have a question for the VP I can still just text him. 6️⃣ How would you describe what you do to your grandparents/parents? I am the middleman between the heating and electricity they get at home, and the assets that produce it. 7️⃣ What gets you out of bed in the morning? The excitement of problem solving. It’s always different from what you plan. 8️⃣ What advice would you give a candidate who wants to be part of ETRM-U? Read up on energy trading and stay curious. Don't be afraid to find answers. 9️⃣ Last but not least, do you have any secret talents? I am from India so cricket comes naturally to me. I think, in a different timeline, maybe I would have been a decent chess player. Thanks for the interview, Bala! We're thankful that you've been solving the puzzles of energy trading technology with us for a decade now. 🧩 Do you think you have what it takes to be part of ETRM-U? Send an e-mail with your cover letter and resume to hr@etrmservices.com, and be sure to reference the ETRM University program. We look forward to your application! #meettheteam #tradingtechnologyexperts

It’s not very often that a company can claim to have a wheelie-popping software engineer, but ETRMServices can. 🏍️ Today we’d like to introduce you to Shankhya Chatterjee, a graduate of our #ETRMUniversity program, who not only shows his talents in his work and on the motorcycle, he's also a powerhouse in the gym! 💪 For our #MeettheTeam series we interviewed Shankhya, who has been working for ETRMServices, first as ETRM-U trainee and now as software engineer, for nearly 3 years. 1️⃣ What’s been your favorite experience at ETRMServices so far? Shankhya: I love that we are always on the lookout for new technology and how to enhance existing one. I really have a thing for keeping everything up to date. 2️⃣ What drove you into this field? Pure coincidence and luck. I happily decided to stick with it. 3️⃣ How would you describe what you do to your grandparents? Well, I would say that I make systems that get the job done for people across the globe swiftly and efficiently. 4️⃣ What do you like most about working for ETRMServices? You work with clients from all over the world, like Ireland and the Netherlands. The amount of exposure to knowledge and different perspectives you get is mind-blowing. 5️⃣ What gets you out of bed in the morning? The ambition to learn new things and keep on learning. 6️⃣ What advice would you give a candidate who wants a job at ETRM? For the technical guys I would say, keep your business foundations strong. Formulas in business change over time, but if you have the foundations you can do anything. 7️⃣ What is your hidden talent? I know how to pop a wheelie on a motorcycle. Oh, and once I bench pressed 2.5 times my weight. Probably can't do that anymore. 🙏Thank you for the interview, Shankhya! It’s been a pleasure having you as our employee for the last 4 years and we look forward to many more. 👆 Did you enjoy the interview? Follow us to meet more ETRMers! #ETRM #TradingTechnologyExperts

🎓 We recently described our longstanding #ETRMUniversity program, which provides technical graduates with training in the niche world of energy trading technology. But who are the faces behind it? Meet a newly minted ETRM-U graduate: Saptarshi Chakraborty, who works remotely from the West Bengal region of India and is also a passionate bicyclist. 🚲 1️⃣ How did you find out about ETRM University? Saptarshi: I got an interview with ETRMServices in 2023 without knowing about the program. The co-founder, who I interviewed with, suggested it to me. 2️⃣ What’s your favorite thing about the program? The flexibility of the working hours. I can balance my time at work while also being able to spend time with family and friends. I also really like my colleagues, who I got to know really quickly. 3️⃣ What drove you into this field? I didn’t know much about it before joining ETRMServices but the energy domain has a bright future, especially for those with a background in IT who are also interested in understanding the energy trading business. 4️⃣ How would you describe what you do to your grandparents? I work in Quality Assurance, where I test a product which is being developed for energy trading, and I also provide support to our clients for that product so that they can perform their business seamlessly. 5️⃣ What gets you out of bed in the morning? The positive interaction with my colleagues really motivates me. 6️⃣ What advice would you give a candidate who wants to be part of the program? I would recommend doing basic research on the energy sector. You should have focus during the learning process and be open to learning new things. 7️⃣ And lastly, if you could have dinner with one historical figure, who would it be and why? It would definitely be one of India’s greatest freedom fighters - Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. His achievements were beyond what one can imagine and his life was full of mystery. Now that he has graduated the program, Saptarshi will stay on with this client as a contributing member of the team. His Project Lead, ETRMServices Director Jermaine Gibbs, PMP, shared, “I am excited to welcome Saptarshi to my project. He already started adding real value towards the end of his training program. The customer is looking forward to Saptarshi's contributions towards key project goals and milestones as the project progresses towards a go-live in the next quarter.” #MeetTheTeam #ETRM #TradingTechnologyExperts

🎓  Have you heard about our ETRM University program? ETRM-U started in 2014 to train smart technical graduates in energy trading technology, providing a real-world context to the IT skills they gained in university. We began the program to fill a gap in skill sets. While it's relatively easy to find people with the IT skills we need, experience in the niche field of energy trading technology is pretty rare. So we decided to create an ongoing stream of young talent with industry knowledge. For several months, participants support a client while learning on-the-job from experienced colleagues. It's a win-win-win situation: the client gets a free extra resource, we get a well-trained employee, and the participant gains in-depth industry knowledge, as well as an introduction to IT consulting best practices. At the end, the client can choose to bring the program graduate onboard as a regular contributor; if not, they have a place with us elsewhere. ETRM-U has successfully graduated candidates every year since its inception and we are proud that they have grown to lead teams at customer sites, manage product development and provide industry expertise. Our tried-and-true ETRM-U methodology takes the best and brightest and forges consultants who, pro-actively and effectively, support the business and technical challenges faced by our customers. 🤝 Stay tuned to meet some program participants! #ETRMUniversity #tradingtechnologyexperts

The U.S. watchdog CFTC is shining a light into the murky waters of voluntary carbon markets to expose fraudulent activities - an important move in the fight against greenwashing. 💪 But how could this affect your carbon trading setup? We want to find out in the third part of our #CarbonTradingIT series. As industry experts warned, the crackdown of fraudulent activities in these largely unregulated markets was imminent - and now it's officially underway. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has expanded its powers and is actively investigating cases that touch the area of greenwashing. 👮♀️ CFTC has anti-fraud authority over underlying carbon credits, not just derivatives 🦸 The Environmental Fraud Task Force was established in June 2023 to tackle manipulation ❌ Multiple probes are underway into false environmental benefit claims and misleading green credentials 💲 Whistleblowers can receive up to 30% of monetary sanctions for reporting wrongdoing For more information check out this Reuters piece: https://lnkd.in/dYC83qRX So what's the takeaway for trading companies? ⚖️ Federal guidelines for voluntary carbon credit derivatives are expected by end of year, which should help clarify compliance requirements. The consequences of non-compliance could be severe, with the potential for hefty fines and reputational damage. Instead of tracking your carbon certificates with error-prone spreadsheets, you really need to move them into your ETRM system with ironclad security, auditability and transparency. A robust ETRM can help improve your carbon accounting practices and reduce the risk of greenwashing accusations in the face of intensifying regulatory scrutiny. If you need guidance on leveraging ETRM capabilities to enhance the integrity and transparency of your carbon trading activities, our team of experts is here to help. Let's talk. 🗣️ #ETRM #CarbonMarkets #EnergyTrading #CBAM

🧐 For most European traders at the moment, CBAM is only a reporting burden. But the regulation's financial obligations begin in 2026 - is your ETRM ready? As we discussed last week, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) requires the purchase and retirement of CBAM certificates corresponding to emissions from certain imports, including electricity. In today's installation of the series #CarbonTradingIT , we're digging into the impact this will have on electricity imports from Great Britain. A recent study from AFRY highlights some potential problems. In particular, the CO2 emission factor is based on a five-year average of fossil fuel generation, greatly overstating Great Briatain's generally quite low carbon intensity. Further, the nature of trading makes it nearly impossible to demonstrate any carbon price paid in the UK, so that CBAM rebates cannot be claimed. Together, these factors will serve to unfairly raise the price of electricity exported from GB to the EU. But what does all this mean for your ETRM landscape? 📊 Trading for 2026 and beyond is already underway, so this is already affecting markets. If CBAM price impacts are not already a part of your calculations for UK import/export, they should be! 👀 You need to follow developments in this matter. Several revisions and exemptions have been proposed; if implemented, they will cause further changes to the equation for 2026 pricing and beyond. 💎 Carbon trading is a continually evolving part of the energy transition. Over the next few weeks, in the series #CarbonTradingIT we'll look at how this impacts your trading IT landscape. One of the more recent developments in Europe is the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), intended to prevent EU companies from simply moving carbon-intensive production to countries with more lax climate policies. CBAM requires importers of electricity, hydrogen, iron, steel, aluminum and fertilizers into the EU to report actual emissions. Beginning in 2026, they will also need to purchase and retire CBAM certificates corresponding to these emissions. 👨💻 From an IT perspective, the regulation has added a significant reporting burden. Direct and indirect emissions must for the first time be calculated at the product level, requiring collection of new data and complex calculations. And it's clear that reporting has been a technical challenge. The first reporting period had to be extended due to technical problems. Compliance was also abysmally low, with Germany and Sweden receiving only 10% of the expected reports. ❓ With the first two two reporting periods now behind us, what has been your experience with CBAM reporting? Are you figuring it out, or are there still major barriers to overcome? Is the ETRM the ideal place to collect the needed data for reporting? #CarbonMarkets #CBAM #ETRM #TradingTechnologyExperts

Well, Previse Systems and ETRMServices might not exactly be brothers on a holy quest, but their partnership has an undeniable rhythm and drive to shake some things up. 🕺🎶 This duo is hitting the road and is more than ready to challenge the ETRM establishment. Flashback to 2019: A ragtag band of trading IT veterans at Previse looked out at the complicated world of ETRM systems and saw an opportunity. Armed with nothing but a half-baked PowerPoint and a dream to build their own next-gen system, they hid away in their studios to craft something that would have crowds begging for more. 🎸 Today, Previse is flipping the ETRM industry on its head with their hit modular SaaS platform. By shedding outdated "this is how it's always been done" mindsets, they architected a truly flexible solution using modern technologies, purposefully designed to be highly extensible and integration-friendly. Previse's bold approach caught the attention of the integration and managed services pros at ETRMServices. Recognizing Previse's knack for lateral thinking and ambitious delivery, ETRMServices saw natural synergies in combining their strengths. What followed was a partnership greater than the sum of its parts. Together, Previse and ETRMServices forged a strong bond and are a force to be reckoned with in the industry, so who knows what amazing stories lie ahead for these two? 🕶️ They've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and they're wearing sunglasses. The ETRM industry better watch out - these brothers are on a mission. #ETRM #energytrading #OnAMission
