Call me naive, but I think there's no "right" time to start an entrepreneurial journey.
When I met Jimmy at the Dutch Goose (best pub burger in the Bay Area - hands down), I instantly felt the intrinsic, unrelenting drive he had to build.
Jimmy had just left Tesla after getting the Tesla Used program off the ground, among many other accomplishments, but I could sense that he was just getting started - it felt like the exact "right" time for his next play.
What I didn't know at the time was that Jimmy had also just had a newborn son. By many accounts, you'd think that that was the exact "wrong" time for him to kick off his journey as a startup founder.
Yet brick by brick, Jimmy has built Plug into the most innovative used EV wholesale marketplace in the industry - and even more - has become an invaluable advisor to Amber and countless other builders.
As I've navigated my own journey as a father to a newborn and startup founder over the past year, Jimmy's been proof that with the right people and purpose, it will always be the "right" time to try. Happy Belated Father's Day, JD. 🤙
Special thank you to Jordan and the entire ASOTU team for sharing our stories. If you are an entrepreneur or builder in the automotive industry, you have to check out ASOTU | More Than Cars and ASOTU Con. Not all conferences are made equal, and ASOTU Con is more community than conference.
This was his BIGGEST lesson in starting his own business.
Joe and Jimmy share this common thread.
They saw a need in automotive and had the desire to bring value in their own ways.
Join Joe Pak from Amber and Jimmy Douglas from Plug as they share their journey being entrepreneurs.
