CNN reports that 46 health systems reported a cyber security incident in 2023, up from 25 health systems in 2022. In 2024 we have already had the Change Healthcare and Ascension incidents, leading to a call by many for minimum cybersecurity standards in healthcare. Healthcare IT professionals, please weigh in. Poll below, will they be effective? https://lnkd.in/gnQ4Tizk

There has been a lot of discussion and debate about worker productivity at home v. the office since the pandemic. Jim Cramer of CNBC had an interesting opinion in his closing remarks on his show Mad Money last night. Citing Truist Bank as an example of the latest company to mandate a RTO. Jim made the argument that the remote work that became popular wasn’t what the millennials or Gen Z demanded, sure those generations enjoyed the perks of working from home, but they didn’t demand it. Rather work from home was allowed by executives and leaders in their 40s and 50s that didn’t want to miss their kids’ important events. Jim gave a personal example of missing his daughter’s field hockey games and regretting the decision to work through those important moments. HOWEVER… He goes on to say that it is short sited that a company will be nearly as productive in a work from home environment. Stating the three most important things a company must do to be competitive are teach and mentor the next generation of employees, keep customers happy, and do right for your company. Stating that it is nearly impossible for a company to mentor employees over Zoom, meet the demands of the business, and beat your competition. My thoughts coming out of covid was that a hybrid schedule was going to be what prevails and it still may be, but Jim used a phrase I hadn’t heard before, “flexible moments”. His thought is a full in office work week will make your company the strongest, but to be the best most competitive organization, recognize the moments and life events you or your employees can’t miss, allow your employees to enjoy those moments, but otherwise be in the office. Companies that do that will be the ones that not only survive, but thrive. What do you think? Is a flexible in-office schedule the way forward? Share your thoughts in the comments. #productivity #remotework #workfromhome #inoffice #flexibility #employeesatisfaction

Northern Ohio HIMSS is looking for volunteers to assist our chapter in preparing for our upcoming Fall Conference as well as a few other events and tasks we have upcoming. This is a great way to get more involved with our chapter and could lead to a Board position. Our fiscal year started in July and this year each of our committee chairs are looking for individuals to mentor and serve as a committee member for future involvement within NOHIMSS. These committees include Advocacy, Programs, Education, Marketing, Membership and Sponsorship. These roles would involve working directly with the committee chair to reach out to sponsors & future members, assist with the writing of our newsletter and social posts, take on responsibilities for our Fall and Spring Conferences. If you are interested in serving in this capacity or have any questions, please contact me directly or our chapter at NOHIMSS@himss.org.
