Boosting U.S. Supply Chain Resilience: In the wake of Covid-19 disruptions, the U.S. grappled with supply-chain challenges affecting production and fueling inflation. Excitingly, the Department of Transportation has just allocated $653 million in grants to upgrade 41 water-based ports nationwide. This crucial funding, a component of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, aims to optimize capacity and efficiency, directly addressing supply chain vulnerabilities. Transportation Secretary Buttigieg underscores the importance of port infrastructure to navigate future uncertainties. This historic investment, the largest for ports to date, encompasses projects dedicated to enhancing safety, efficiency, and reliability in goods movement. Notably, the American Society of Civil Engineers flags a $12 billion gap in waterside infrastructure over the next decade. This milestone marks a significant stride in modernizing our nation's infrastructure and fortifying supply chain resilience. NEW $57 Million Investment in Florida Springs Restoration Governor Ron DeSantis has revealed the allocation of over $57 million for 23 statewide springs restoration projects aimed at preserving and enhancing Florida's iconic springs. These initiatives, identified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and four water management districts, encompass wastewater and pollution control projects, land conservation in spring recharge zones, and water-quality improvements. The governor emphasizes the economic importance of preserving these springs as they attract global visitors. The projects, selected through collaboration with DEP, water management districts, and local stakeholders, include upgrades to wastewater treatment facilities, septic-to-sewer conversions, and land acquisitions. This investment builds on Florida's ongoing commitment to springs restoration, with over $325 million allocated since 2019, contributing to more than 130 projects and significant reductions in Total Nitrogen. #water #waterinfrastructure #florida GHW Global

Approximately 78% of civil and infrastructure construction firms in the U.S. anticipate an increase or maintenance of their project backlogs in the next year due to increased federal infrastructure funding, according to a report by Procore Technologies and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). However, they are concerned about labor shortages and productivity challenges affecting project success. The report highlights that civil and infrastructure builders have experienced a 25% increase in their backlogs since the COVID-19 pandemic. About one-third of projects fail to meet budget, schedule, and quality goals, suggesting room for improvement. Many firms are investing in technology to address these challenges, such as financial visibility tools and project management software. Additionally, firms are getting involved in projects at earlier stages to enhance their success. What this implies for job seekers is that if you can quantify your Project Management and Estimating skills that consistently result in projects being completed within or below budget, it provides Hiring Managers with tangible proof that you can contribute to their company's achievement of budget, schedule, and quality targets, ultimately adding value to their organization. Are you interested in exploring how to effectively highlight these career achievements during your job search? Reach out to me at: cj.mckennitt@ghw.global 954-281-8077 GHW Global

From Coast to Coast: As summer drew to a close, notable infrastructure victories unfolded on both the East and West Coasts. Out West, Skanska USA, the American branch of the Sweden-based contractor and developer, sealed a substantial deal with the Washington State DOT. The agreement, valued at $834 million, focuses on operational improvements along a 4.5-mile section of the I-405 corridor in Bothell, Washington. The I-405-SR 167 corridor is integral to a burgeoning region, as per the Washington DOT, necessitating the addition of new lanes, direct access ramps, and infrastructure to accommodate the growing population, businesses, and job opportunities, all in support of the Stride Bus Rapid Transit program. On the East Coast, the New York DOT has chosen E.E. Cruz, a subsidiary of Flatiron headquartered in Whitestone, New York, to execute a $137.7 million project. This project's primary objective is to replace the Bronx River Parkway Bridge, enhancing safety on the crossing and improving mobility throughout the Bronx. Exciting news from Wrangell, Alaska! The Wrangell Assembly has given the green light to a crucial $19.5 million contract for a new drinking water treatment plant. This development is a major step forward in addressing persistent issues with the old plant, which has been in operation since 1999 and has struggled with organic material in the source water, leading to the use of chemicals that produce harmful byproducts. The innovative "Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF)" system to be implemented in the new plant promises to revolutionize water treatment by clumping organic matter for easy removal. Securing funding was a challenge, with costs doubling due to inflation and the pandemic, but the community has rallied with various funding sources, including a $1.95 million loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Construction is set to begin in early November, with a target completion date of September 2024. This project showcases what a community can achieve when faced with a critical need. #WaterTreatment #Infrastructure #WTP #Water #GHWglobal GHW Global
