Thank you to ABC 33/40 for telling our story about our recruitment needs! We are looking to fill 100 positions that work with children and adults with autism. Starting positions only require a high school diploma, someone to be at least 18, and they must pass a background check. There are also opportunities to grow with the company. "We do have things in place, where if you’re coming in we can get you started as a behavior teacher assistant or direct support professional and then get you trained to be a RBT registered patient technician," said human resources recruiter Ashlin Grant. Grant said the biggest challenge in recruiting is finding the right person. She said it's hard work, but also rewarding. "We want to make sure we have people that are here to take care of our individuals, they have a service heart and want to make a difference in the lives of individuals," Grant Explained. Opening in 2018, Glenwood recognized the immense need for a Children’s Center in the Birmingham area. “The evidence is overwhelming that the earlier you can intervene in the life of a child with autism, the more positive impact you’ll have,” Ken Oliver, CEO/President of Glenwood says. “So, we opened the Mallie Ireland Children’s Center, where children with autism ages 2 to 6 receive an intense level of early intervention. Board certified behavior analysts and registered behavior technicians provide 35 hours of one-on-one services, in conjunction with speech and occupational therapists, to the children each week in an effort to prepare them for public school. All of the children who have graduated have successfully transitioned into public school. It’s a fantastic program,” said Oliver. Glenwood’s Mallie M. Ireland Children’s Center on the Avondale Campus provides Applied Behavior Analysis and other intensive therapy services. ABA is an evidence-based therapy that focuses on the principles and techniques of learning theory to help improve social behavior. ABA therapy helps to develop new skills, shape, and refine previously learned skills, and decrease socially significant problem behaviors. Speech and occupational therapy are also integrated into the daily programs for the children.
