Executive Director of the Greater Memphis Economic Research Group (GMERG) at Greater Memphis Chamber
🌟 Exciting News for Memphis! 🌟 Our community has won a significant grant for the America’s River Crossing Bridge project! This achievement is a testament to our collective efforts and the collaborative spirit of our region. The Biden-Harris administration has invested nearly $394 million in this initiative, which will replace the outdated I-55 bridge, enhancing safety and connectivity between Tennessee and Arkansas. A huge shoutout to John Dudas and Julie Ellis, who put an incredible amount of work into landing this project. Their dedication and hard work were instrumental, and I am just happy to have assisted them with the research. Thank you to the Greater Memphis Chamber, the business community, TDOT, ARDOT, and everyone who had their hand in highlighting this milestone. Together, we are paving the way for a brighter and more connected future. #Memphis #EconomicDevelopment #Infrastructure #Community #CommunityPartners #Teamwork #GrantSuccess #TDOT #ARDOT

#MemphisMoves As a Memphian, you naturally become an historian because history is literally made every day in this great city. Today, I was excited to attend the announcement of our region's new bridge, America's River Crossing. This development has been over 20 years in the making and through local, state, and federal collaboration and the creation of the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this day was made possible. Much gratitude to one of the key leaders that made it happen through his persistent leadership, Congressman Steve Cohen. Great things happen when you work together. Department of Labor Shakes Up Overtime Rules: What You Need to Know The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced changes to overtime regulations, impacting millions of salaried workers across the country. Here's a breakdown of the key points: Increased Salary Thresholds: The minimum salary required to qualify for overtime pay has been raised. This means more salaried workers will now be eligible for overtime if they work more than 40 hours a week. Effective July 1, 2024: The threshold increased to the equivalent of an annual salary of $43,888. Effective January 1, 2025: The threshold will jump again to $58,656 annually. Highly Compensated Workers: The minimum total annual compensation requirement for exempting highly compensated employees from overtime has also been increased. Effective July 1, 2024: The threshold is now $132,964 annually. Effective January 1, 2025: This threshold will rise to $151,164 annually. Automatic Updates: The DOL is implementing a system for automatic updates to the salary thresholds every three years, based on current earnings data. This ensures the regulations keep pace with changing economic realities. Impact: These changes will likely affect businesses by increasing their overtime costs. Some businesses may reclassify certain workers as hourly employees or adjust work schedules to limit overtime hours.
