Fraud is a tort and is generally conceptualized as a lie someone tells another in order to profit from the deception. Fraud was recognized by the judges of the old and has been defined by case law ever since its recognition. Grounded in this tradition, Texas has established its definitions and elements of fraud through case law. Caleb Rackley is one of our appellate attorneys who tries to help out his community in any way he can. His career, in both practicing law and teaching law, exemplifies service to others. Caleb’s career in the law is vast. He served as a briefing attorney at the Supreme Court of Texas for the Honorable Paul W. Green, practiced as a litigator at the largest law firm in San Antonio, and then founded his own law firm. He also served as president of the Defense Counsel of San Antonio, served on the board of directors for the Construction Law Section of the San Antonio Bar Association, and was appointed to the Attorney Grievance Committee for the State Bar of Texas. After years of practice, Caleb transitioned into teaching law to inspire the next generation of attorneys. For over a decade, he taught law at Schreiner University, University of the Incarnate Word, and St. Mary’s University. As a member of the full-time faculty at St. Mary’s, Caleb led the development of a trend-setting and innovative course for all first-year law students. In 2019, Caleb transitioned back into practicing law and joined our firm. He focuses on civil appellate law and motion practice but still manages to aid in the development of the next generation of attorneys. On top of his large caseload, Caleb still sets aside time to help mentor and train our Associates and Grasshoppers. Caleb and his wife have three children, along with a wide range of animals and livestock on their ranch. Caleb is always willing to extend a helping hand to those around him. His wide range of experiences allows him to advance highly-detailed and ironclad arguments on behalf of our clients. We are so thankful to have someone with his breadth of knowledge at our firm! Rebecca Page is an attorney who is full of grit and determination. She has been with us since 2012. She first began in the medical records department, then worked full-time while attending law school at St. Mary's University School of Law, excelled as an Associate Attorney, and then grew to become a Partner. Her vast legal knowledge and cunning negotiating skills make her a force to be reckoned with. Rebecca focuses on complex cases like medical malpractice and disputed liability accidents because she is not deterred by hard work when it comes to helping her clients. She welcomes a challenge and is always ready to fight. Rebecca believes in teaching and inspiring the next generation of attorneys. For years she was the manager of the clerkship program where she helped establish the foundational roots of the program. Even now as an attorney, she still makes time to help out the new clerks that enter the program and provide them with guidance in and out of the courtroom. Her competitive attitude stems from her love of football (both playing flag football and her favorite team the Indianapolis Colts). She carries that resilience with her as she prepares her cases for her clients. It is easy to see once you meet Rebecca that she is living her true calling of being an attorney. She brings hard work, dedication, and drive to her work each day. Her competitive nature gives her an edge in the courtroom, and we are lucky to have her on our roster. Attorney Jennifer Neal is another one of our best who will never back down from a fight and always strives for more. After graduating from the University of Texas, Jennifer was a paralegal for ten years before deciding she wanted to make a greater impact in the legal world by becoming a lawyer. She went to law school full-time, worked full-time, interned with multiple judges, and still excelled at everything she set her mind to. Jennifer has taken on major cases since becoming an attorney, and now Partner, at Guerra LLP. Her ever-growing, nationwide docket includes fighting large corporations to provide better living conditions for military families in on-base housing, challenging defendants who injure clients in car wrecks, being the voice for clients when dangerous chemicals are spread in a community, holding companies accountable for their obligations under consumer protection laws, and so much more. Jennifer's passion exudes from her. She loves her husband and dogs (Hank, Alex, and Bia), enjoys cooking, is a true RBG fan, and is a fervent advocate for her clients. Mike Murray is another of our three Appellate Attorneys. Our appellate group works to assist courts in correctly applying the law to the facts and preventing errors in the litigation of our cases. Our appellate group’s work is writing-intensive: they review pleadings, write motions and responses to motions, and prepare jury charges. They help our litigators to craft trial strategies. And in the event that an error does occur during a trial, our Appellate Attorneys seek to correct those errors by persuading appellate courts to overturn a ruling because the law requires it, or to urge reassessment of the law where its application leads to unfair or inequitable results. Along with having supported the litigation of hundreds of cases in courts in 20 states, Mike has been counsel in nearly 100 appellate proceedings. He has participated in appeals to the Supreme Court of the United States, the Fifth and Tenth Circuits, the Supreme Court of Texas and most Texas appellate courts, as well as the Supreme Courts of Kentucky and New Mexico. Mike is a devoted husband to his incredible wife Cindy and father to their two amazing daughters. He is the Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Sunshine Cottage School for Deaf Children and has been at the forefront of dealing with Legislative issues related to the education of deaf children who use hearing technology in Texas. He has served on the Vestry of Grace Episcopal Church for many years. And he is a passionate volleyball dad. Attorneys like Mike are the cornerstones of Guerra LLP. His vast knowledge and skills impact every case he works on and we are blessed beyond measure to have him on our team. Triple-digit temperatures are hitting Texas already and those who work in hot conditions are already struggling to maintain proper hydration. Given the hazards of heat stroke and heat exhaustion to employees, OSHA requires employers to provide water on the job site. To read more about this requirement, click here https://bit.ly/4eayvxW
