We’ve been awarded $53,653,882 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, a $5,751,053 increase from last year, to serve more families through our Housing Choice Voucher Program! Currently, our HCV (Section 8) program assists 5,600 households, and we’re grateful to HUD for its recognition of and investment in our program. This funding, particularly the $5M increase, will allow us to create new housing opportunities for approximately 500 additional households despite challenges faced by Public Housing Agencies across the country like landlord participation, lack of accessible housing for individuals with disabilities, and cuts in congressional funding.   A full list of communities awarded with HCV renewal funding can be found at https://lnkd.in/eT-UMGpq. #Birmingham #Affordablehousing #Section8 #Landlord #Grantfunding

Progress on affordable housing is underway on Birmingham’s southside, and we couldn’t be more excited! We recently joined our development partners to give local media partners a first look at our Edgehill at Southtown redevelopment! The former 22-acre public housing community, Southtown Court, is being transformed into a mixed-use, mixed-income neighborhood that will include residences, office space, green spaces, retail and more. If you drive by the development, you’ll see that our affordable housing developments for Birmingham families and seniors are near complete!
