Today, we’re honored to welcome United States DOT Secretary Pete Buttigieg back to Harrisburg to highlight the grant funds awarded to repair the I-83 bridge. A big thank you to everyone who worked alongside us to find a solution that minimizes the impact on families and businesses in our region. The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded PennDOT $500 million in grant funds to repair the I-83 bridge over the Susquehanna River. These funds were awarded through the Large Bridge Project category of the Bridge Investment Program, which is funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. These federal grant funds will be combined with state funds to complete the $1.1-$1.3 billion project, which is set to begin in 2026. We at the Harrisburg Regional Chamber have been actively involved since 2021, working tirelessly to block the tolling proposal under PennDOT’s Major Bridge P3 Program. After visiting D.C. in October 2023 to advocate for federal funding to repair the bridge, and working with PennDOT and other stakeholders to support federal grant applications, we’re thrilled to celebrate this victory for our community. https://lnkd.in/eUunRYKf

While there is still work to be done, this year’s Commonwealth Budget gets Pennsylvania moving in the right direction and headed down the road to real growth. Key components for the business community include tax reform, permitting reform, and funding for site development to bring businesses to Pennsylvania. Brianna Campbell captivated us with her insights into the best advice she's ever received, encouraging us to think deeply about our own thoughts.
