The IDHS Office of Firearm Violence Prevention (OFVP) is offering funding for youth development organizations in community areas across Illinois that will provide programming to youth. The Quincy Derby, a yearly racing competition for kids, recently made a big splash in the Quincy community. Their Super Kids Derby—dedicated to children with disabilities—was hailed as one of the most impactful and memorable events of the year for the kids who participated. At the awards ceremony, Illinois School for the Visually Impaired’s Ken Mansell explained that the derby made the Super Kids realize “the sky is the limit for them.” This #DisabilityPrideMonth, we celebrate inclusive activities, such as this one, and the teachers and mentors—including our IDHS employees who make events like these happen. https://lnkd.in/eqTCEfdN
