Today we officially broke ground on our newest Taco Bell location in Lackawanna, NY – one of three Taco Bells we’ll open in the Buffalo area this summer and fall. Annette Iafallo, Mayor of the City of Lackawanna, was happy to help kick off construction on this lot which has been vacant for decades. We’re thrilled to bring jobs and something positive to this one-time “eyesore” and appreciate the help of council members Dean Moretti, Kevin Surdyke, and Karl Anderson, Gregory Mulvey of Mulvey Construction Inc., as well as Joe Schmidt and Ken Shaw of KBP Brands in helping officially kickstart construction.

We are happy to support Atlanta Children's Day Shelter's mission to break the cycle of poverty for families facing homelessness. Thank you to Dwayne McIntyre for representing KBP at this celebration event.

May the 4th Be With You. When your employees are spread across 31 states, getting together is difficult, but being far, far away doesn’t keep us from connecting for a good cause in all kinds of weather. This weekend 900 employees across the U.S. logged steps in small groups, big groups, and pairs for our 4th Annual KBP Cares 5K which provides funding for employees experiencing hardship. Some participants wore costumes and carried light sabers to embrace the 5K theme; ALL showed up to make a difference for a colleague and demonstrate they care. Thank you KBP team for being a force for good!

Our Women's Resource Group had the pleasure of hosting Monica Rothgery, the author of 'Lessons from the Drive Thru' on Tuesday. As the former COO of KFC US, this author is near and dear to many KBP employees including our CEO, Michael G. Kulp, who credits Monica as being one of the most authentic, courageous, and common-sense operators he's had the honor of working with. Starting our day with Monica was a blast, and thanks to her book, we can continue soaking up her wisdom and having a good laugh along the way!

An hour well spent this morning with Monica Rothgery talking to our Women’s Resource Group about her book, Lessons From the Drive Thru. It matters not your industry, the wisdom Monica shares is helpful for any leader in any industry.

Together, people can accomplish great things. Deliece Hofen, founder of Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer, and Teresa Hamilton, founder of Giving the Basics, are hope champions who saw unmet needs in the community, took action, and rallied people to provide hope and resources to thousands of Kansas Citians who desperately need it. Big thanks to Braden’s Hope for shining a light on how incredibly underfunded childhood cancer is and raising funds to change that. Thanks to Giving the Basics for giving people hygiene products they need to feel good. We’re proud to support these organizations and proud of our Home Office employees who made more than 100 cards for kids fighting cancer and collected more than 500 soaps for these great causes during National Volunteer Week.

We're all about any opportunity to give back! Today, 50 of our awesome Home Office crew hit the road to pitch in at local stores. Our restaurant squads rock at serving up smiles every day, so it was time for the Home Office to join in and be of service. With paintbrushes and soap buckets in hand, our team dived right into making stores shine!

Did you know personal hygiene items aren’t covered by government assistance programs? In Kansas City, Giving the Basics is committed to providing products for human dignity. Yesterday, Kristi Macaluso, KBP Chief People Officer and Giving the Basics board member, and several members of her team put our core value of doing the right thing into action packaging 18,000+ desperately needed items such as shampoo, soap, and toothbrushes to be distributed across 700 local locations. We are grateful for the opportunity to support Giving the Basics' important mission!

It's heating up in Arizona, where we just opened another Arby's location in Avondale. The team was greeted by customers who lined up hours before the ribbon cutting for their chance to score a free roast beef sandwich every week for a year!   It takes a village to add a new location and we want to thank ours. Thank you Ideal Construction & Maintenance LLC, Alan Okon, LEED-AP, CDP, Terry Maglia, Sheila Burke, Dione Sohn, Lori Byers, Chandler Moore, and all of your teams for the work it took to get the 107th McDowell location ready to serve the meats!
