Dear Valued Clients and Friends: As we celebrate Independence Day, we're reminded of the courage, foresight, and resilience that have shaped our nation's history. This July 4th, we at The Kelly Group would like to share some reflections on the parallels between our country's journey and the principles that guide our investment philosophy. Let's turn our attention to a pivotal moment in American history: the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. This battle, which inspired our national anthem, offers a powerful lesson in the importance of preparation over prediction. In September 1814, the British forces, fresh from their victory in Washington D.C., set their sights on Baltimore. The citizens of Baltimore, aware of the potential threat, had spent over a year fortifying their defenses. They didn't try to predict when or how the British would attack; instead, they focused on being prepared for various scenarios. As fate would have it, unexpected weather conditions played a crucial role. A heavy fog rolled in over the harbor, providing cover for the American defenders and complicating the British naval assault. This unforeseen event, combined with the Americans' thorough preparations, ultimately led to a pivotal victory for our young nation. At The Kelly Group, we see a striking parallel between this historical event and our approach to financial planning and investing. Read more in Bryan E. Kelly's full letter below.
