  • The Platform for Exploring Environmental Records (PEER) is an interactive, open-source data tool that informs brownfields redevelopment and planning decisions that was developed by KSU TAB Partner, Community Lattice, in partnership with KSU TAB, with funding from data.org's Inclusive Growth and Recovery Challenge. The tool aggregates and displays publicly-available environmental records in an easy-to-use, accessible way. By using PEER, communities can immediately find critical site data to help them identify and prioritize brownfields in their community for assessment, and draw in the right professionals, partners, and resources to move forward. For each environmental record, PEER provides a Revitalization Risk Rating (RRR), which indicates the likelihood of encountering a release of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant on or adjacent to the associated property. This tool is a wonderful resource for understanding environmental records in your community and can be helpful for locating environmental data that may be incorporated into Brownfields or other grant proposals. Check out the PEER Tool here: https://lnkd.in/guRKw_53

  • The final episode of the limited podcast, PlaceKnowing, has arrived! As the series wraps up, Dr. Ted Jojola looks at the creation of the First Americans Museum in Oklahoma and how the team behind the new Indigenous cultural center incorporated the traditions and tools of 39 tribal nations into its design. This site was reclaimed from pervasive contamination caused in part by the world's very first oil field. Dr. Jojola sits down with guests Joseph Erb (Cherokee Artist, Animator, Scholar, and Tribal TAB friend), Gena Timberman (Choctaw, Consultant First Americans Museum), and Bill Fain (of Johnson Fain architecture studio, a non-tribal person who worked on the museum) to discuss how that connection between land, buildings, and community continue traditions that are tens of thousands of years old. Listen to learn more about the project and find new (and old) ways you can make a difference in your own community! • UNM School of Architecture’s Anthony Fettes and PlaceKnowing host Dr. Ted Jojola discuss how our relationship with land has fundamentally changed–even flipped–over the years and how that affects our everyday lives and communities. The revitalization of Golovin after severe flooding is a perfect example of how using Indigenous methods have helped iDPi, Tribal TAB, and local changemakers to restore that essential symbiotic connection. Learn more about what’s been going on in Alaska and how lessons learned there can help you make a difference.
